MARCH MADNESS (round 3) SMACK POSTINGS FOR BRACKET ONE

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

I GIVE UP ON LH POWER!!

Postby JIMDAKE » Sat Oct 14, 2006 1:39 pm

You wouldn't think it's too difficult in this game to find a LH hitting DH for Tiger Stadium, would you?

After trying futilely all season long to find a non-crapola DH card -- I've lost count by now -- while watching the Titans' BA settle into, and stay mired in, last place, I'm trying some desperation moves at the roster deadline to try to squeeze out a couple of extra runs. So untried hitters Dane Iorg, Jeff Treadway, and Bill Almon make the roster for the final sprint as DHs, along with a 2nd tryout for Carmen Castillo. Somehow this team has won more than it's lost despite regularly coughing up more runs than it can score. Just trying to hang in for one more week! This league must have the worst set of mystery cards ever.

With some tight races that look like they will come down to the wire, I went back (quite a way back actually) to re-post the RULES. In there you will find the tie-breaker information:

RULES

AUTODRAFT

1st ROUND

Teams will be placed in brackets in the field of 36 or 48. The brackets will be seeded as follows: if we have 48 (4 brackets of 12), I will take the top 12 from the TSN manager rankings and seed them as follows: league 1 - manager 1, 8 and 9 (E, C and W); league 2 - manager 2, 7 and 10; league 3 - manager 3, 6 and 11; and league 4 - manager 4, 5 and 12. If we have 36 (3 brackets of 12), I will seed only the top 9 in a similar fashion. Then, we'll allow the remaining players on the list to fill out the remainder of the bracket.

2nd ROUND

All playoff teams will advance automatically to the next round. If the field is 48, 5 additional teams in each bracket - determined by best record (tiebreakers below) - will also advance (giving us a field of 36).

Once we have a field of 36 (or if we start at 36), the four playoff teams will advance along with 4 additional teams in each bracket - determined by best record (giving us a field of 24). The field will be re-seeded after each round, not based on manager ratings, but on record in the previous bracket. Playoff teams will get higher "status."

FINAL

The eight playoff teams will advance along with 2 additional teams from each bracket to give us the final 12. Again, the teams will be seeded based on performance in the field of 24.

TIEBREAKERS

1. Head to head
2. Run differential
3. Pick 3 lottery

STADIUMS

Parks will not be designated, but a different park must be chosen by each manager in each round. Players in a single bracket can have the same park.

PRIZES

Certainly optional, but it would be cool if we could purchase a 5 pack for the winner. We'd only need to collect $2/3 from each player and I'd provide my Paypal account.

Unfortunately, I recall the above not happening despite my remarks to re-rank based on bracket performance.

The response had been - it's just like the NCAA - you're ranked #1 entering the tourney - you keep it all the way through.

Yep, Semper, that change was made -- partly philosophically (the NCAA analogy) and partly (maybe mostly) practicallity -- a lot of surviving owners wanted to move right into drafting the next round without waiting to see how the playoffs turned out.
Thanks for digging out the tiebreakers, JimmyC, looks like we may need them to pick the final round!

GAHKKKKHHHHKKKKKK!!!!

Postby JIMDAKE » Fri Oct 20, 2006 12:10 am

Sound of the Leakin' Titans CHOKING!
PPFFFFFFFFFFFFT!!!
Sound of the Titans staff ERA inflating.

2-8 in the last 10 games, lost the last 5 series.
Falling out of first place, since...???? most of the season.
Falling out of playoffs bracket (2 games back w/ 3 to play)
Falling out into 7th place overall (1 game back of rutkap).
Is there a Cardinals-like miracle in the last series of the year????

So much for tweaking the roster prior to the final divisional series!
