Guys, my family and I are in the middle of moving back home after moving out 5 long months ago due to construction. That's one of the reasons why I really didn't have time to make my mid-season All-Star selections. I did, however, recently have a chance to sit down and make my post-season selections. Here they are:
[b:8932cfc87a]MVP[/b:8932cfc87a]
Rickey Henderson, EXPRESS - Ok, right off the bat, it looks like we're going to have some controversy  Rice was the best player on the best team. McGwire had the gaudiest batting numbers of anyone. But in my opinion, Henderson, who had pretty gaudy stats himself, had more of a chance to impact games with his Gold Glove caliber D and his legs (league leading 72 SBs). Again, just my opinion and I'm sure an argument can (and will) be made for the other two guys.
[b:8932cfc87a]CY YOUNG[/b:8932cfc87a]
Roger Clemens, LOADED - A little less controversial, Clemens is a no-brainer. The Rocket led the league in wins, IP, ERA, CG, and SHO. Only Doc Gooden prevented Clemens from taking home the strikeout crown as well. Overall, he went 28-10, .99 WHIP and 2.55 ERA. Awesome numbers, but when you consider his home park was the Kingdome, those numbers are astounding. Scott, DeLeon, and Doc all had fine seasons, but it really wasn't close.
[b:8932cfc87a]SUB-MILLION BARGAIN OF THE YEAR (Replacing the ROY, which didn't have enough viable candidates. Lind probably would've won it, BTW)[/b:8932cfc87a]
Mike Young, MILLIONS - In perhaps the best single season performance of the decade by a .75 hitter, Young hit .302 with 37 HR and 102 RBIs. The scary part about that is that he missed nearly 40 games early on(probably because Arlington didn't yet realize what they had in him), otherwise we could be mentioning him in the MVP discussion. Teammate Larry Anderson (45 saves) and Will Frasor (10-0) also received consideration.
[b:8932cfc87a]FIRST TEAM ALL STARS[/b:8932cfc87a]
C - Lance Parrish, LOA - (In a down year for catchers, Parrish had the best combo of O and D; playing in the Kingdome didn't hurt; .233, 32, 97)
1B - Mark McGwire, EXP - (Outrageous numbers; .308, 72, 153; clearly, the Decade League doesn't test for performance enhancing drugs  )
2B - Ryne Sandberg, EXP - (Disappointing average - .251, but 40+HR and 125 RBI for a 2B will get you on the first team every time)
3B - George Brett, KNI - (The centerpiece of a midseason mega deal, Brett had a typical year, but was unable to get the Knights into the playoffs)
SS - Cal Ripken, MIL (After an off year, Cal was back to his All-Star form; .291, 34, 105)
OF - Rickey Henderson, EXP (See above)
OF - Jim Rice, BFD (An MVP lock any other year, Rice made his league swan song his best ever; .337, 61, 132)
OF - Dave Winfield, BFD (Joins teammate Rice on the first team; ranked in the top 3 in HR and RBI, - not an easy task this year)
DH - Jose Canseco, LOA (Reunited with McGwire, this Bash Brother was top 5 in each of the Triple Crown categories)
SP - Roger Clemens, LOA (See above)
SP - Doc Gooden, 88s (24 wins and a league leading 320 Ks would usually guarantee a Cy Young award, but not this year; will have to settle for 1st teamer)
SP - Mike Scott, EXP (Ace of a staff full of 20 game winners, Scott led the Express to a Central Division title)
SP - Jose DeLeon, EXP (If Scott is #1, then DeLeon is #1A as he practically matched Scott's #s; gave up an unreal 94 less hits than IP)
SP - Mark Gubicza, MIL (Doesn't have the eye-popping WHIP or ERA, but all this guy does is win....to the tune of 22-8 on the playoff bound Millions)
RP - Tom Henke, EXP (Making his long overdue All-Star debut; put up what I believe is a league record .81 WHIP on his way to saving 29 games)
RP - Greg Harris, MAN (This bullpen horse pitched a jaw-dropping 237 IP and ranked among the leaders with 244 Ks; 3.08 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 15 sv)
RP - Will Frasor, BFD (10-0, 11sv, 1.01 WHIP and 2.69 ERA; nothing wrong with those numbers)
RP - Mark Davis, ORE (Formed impressive closer combo with former All-Star Lee Smith; 1.17 WHIP, 2.40 ERA 20 sv in 127 IP)
RP - Larry Anderson, MIL (League leader with 45 saves, this .75 vet is no stranger this list)
[b:8932cfc87a]SECOND TEAM ALL-STARS[/b:8932cfc87a]
C - Benito Santiago, KNI (Narrowly edged out hard hitting Larry Sheets, but in the end, Benny's defense and durabilty was the difference)
1B - Eddie Murray, BFD (Eddie's doing what he does best: hitting the crap out of the ball; .316, 43, 119; tough luck for W. Clark who got snubbed despite winning batting title)
2B - Lou Whitaker, MUR (Sweet Lou's all around performance was one of the few bright spots on a last place Murph's team; .290, 18, 57)
3B - Paul Molitor, 88s (The ignitor for the 88's potent offense, Molitor led the team with 111 R and 42 SB...to go along with 16 HR and 97 RBI)
SS - Barry Larkin, FAT (The lone Fatboy to make this team, Larkin's performance - 200 H, .326 avg and 20 SBs - wasn't enough to prevent a dismal season for Flushing)
OF - Darryl Strawberry, ORE (.282, 45, 107 playing in Royals Stadium on a last place team is mighty impressive)
OF - Kirk Gibson, 88s (Gibby showed off his repetiore as he swiped 27 bags and hit 40 HRs on his way to driving in 135)
OF - Andre Dawson, EXP (Yet another Express All-Star, the Hawk flashed an all around game; .281, 37, 119, 27 SBs)
DH - Mike Young, MIL (See above)
SP - Bret Saberhagen, MIL (Couldn't quite reach the 20 game mark in '87, but no such problems this year; 21-13, 1.28 WHIP, 3.97 ERA)
SP - Rick Sutcliffe, BFD (This guy is amazing; must've gotten his 1984 card in at least half of years of this decade; 19-8, 1.22 WHIP)
SP - Frank Tanana, EXP (The 7th Express All-Star, he won 20, showing that 1987 was no fluke)
SP - Bobby Ojeda, MAN (Acquired in a trade, Ojeda was disappointing with the Mango Men; Overall, his numbers were great; 16-8, 3.51, 1.14)
SP - Frank Viola, BFD (A newcomer to the team, this vet came through big time for YF's BFDs; 17-12, 3.52, 1.28)
RP - Jay Howell, BFD (We should just re-name this team the BFD/Express All-Stars; the 7th BFD member to make it)
RP - Terry Leach, 88s (Posted a sparkling WHIP of 1.10 and 20 saves while logging 126 IP for the West Division Champs)
RP - Edwin Nunez, LOA (Established himself as the closer for Mav's squad and never looked back; 12 sv, 2.24 ERA, 1.01 WHIP)
RP - Bob McClure, LOA (Versatile lefty was very effective in a setup role as well as closing some games out)
RP - Dave Smith, TEN (Talented closer for Big Al's Eight of Ten may have been overused but had impressive numbers nonetheless)
