Keeper league--with variations (well, MAYBE)

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Whoa! Relax!

The league certainly isn't "ruined." We have pitchers batting -- that's different. I guess we can't use .75ers as keepers, though, according to BC, who's run this before.

So, we have a variation -- pitchers batting.

League-wise, I was always looking for something like the old face-to-face days, where I had my core group of players.

So, let's run the league according to the official decade rules, but with pitchers batting.

As for the free agent part, is there anyone who signed up for this league that simply can't stomach the idea? If there are no objections voice before FRI, I suggest we move on to figuring out draft order and everything else. Would anyone like to be our "draft GM?" I may be an "MVP," but I'm certainly not the most experienced player here.

Let's get this show on the road, so I continue my unbroken string of zero playoff teams in theme leagues!

Oh, and FYI: I tried to edit that one post this morning, but my gf's computer, well, it sucks. That's why you have two posts from me at that time (I clicked, and the thing just started spinning). Had to go to work before I could fix it).

I'll be glad to be the draft GM. Since the league is full and everyone has selected a lotto state we will use tonight's pick 3 lotto numbers. The order will be low to high. Should there be a tie the prior day's pick 3 number will be the tie-breaker.

We don't have to start drafting until we are ready but we might as well get our draft order ready. We should decide if we are doing the draft on these boards or on Penn's website. I have never set up a draft on Penn's site, only participated in many.

a) PLAYER ELIGIBILITY - All players who’s first year on their card is 1981 or earlier will be eligible for this draft. All players priced at $0.75 million (this salary only – not 0.78, for example – will also be eligible. These 0.75 players will only be ‘signed’ for one year – they will not be keepers for year 2, etc.

Please use the player spreadsheet provided on an earlier post to see what players would be available to draft.

I think that maybe we could just make an exemption for catchers. all .75 catchers can be kept for any season.

What is the advantage to using penn's draft site? The proxy picks?

Iw as wondering if we could draft ballparks separate from players. I know the decade rules include drafting parks as part of the draft, but I'd lkike to know my ballpark before I begin picking players. It's going to determine my strategy.

Since I'm on that, are there any of us who desire the same park? I know I want the Astrodome (my second pick would be Comiskey).

Assuming we use the player pool as described in the first Decade league there will be 148 elligible pitchers and 222 hitters for the first year, 1981. Therefore we will use almost all of the elligible players.

I will post the lotto draft results tomorrow morning early. Before we start drafting we need to come up with an official, clearly stated, set of rules. We can start with the original rules and edit them to our pleasure. The final version should come from Honestiago since this is his league.

Clarify 1981 Eligibility

Postby JIMDAKE » Thu Sep 28, 2006 8:15 pm

Looks like there "could be" a slight conflict between the rules around 1981 eligibility and the spreadsheet posted above (thank you, YF), depending upon how it's used. The 2nd set of tabs list simply first and last year.... and that looks like career stats rather than years listed on TSN cards. The other 2 tabs have a line for each player/each year. (no wonder the sucker is 1.5mb!) The decade rules specify 1981 or earlier card year. Before folks delve too deeply into draft lists we should clarify this. Personally I like the true career years, although it broadens some eligibility and wouldn't trigger as many retirements.
75-centers: While we're weighing in on stuff - I'd choose either to treat all 75 centers as available each year, or allow 1-2 to be kept. (I'd still like to see a middle number on total number of keepers each year, all prices, around 10)., to generate more turnover (especially since the vote went to 80M cap and no DH).
