Does HAL manage better in the 80s?

Does anyone else feel that HAL does a better job with managing his pitchers and bullpen here in the 80s than he does in the other SOM games?

I sure do, and I can't explain why. :?

Maybe there are just better RP, or because you get by a bit cheaper you can carry 6 RP and let HAL play the matchups.

Many ATG'er try to pitch the arsm off of the good one. Also there is more tallent in ATG so pitchers get hit harder. Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb did not play in the 80's as far as I can recall. And with the mystry card even the big names can have a down year.

I'll have to disagree, though my Back to the 80's team is my first SOM team of any kind, so I don't have anything to compare.

HAL's killing me with his bullpen decisions. For example, I'm losing 2-0 and my opposition has one on and nobody out in the bottom of the 7th. He brings in my righty setup man, Goose Gossage, to face a righty, Mike Schmidt. Cool. Schmidt reaches on an error, and HAL promptly brings in my lefty setup man, who I've said to avoid righty's, to face righty Robin Yount. WHAT?!?!?!? Six runs on five hits over the next two innings later, with my lefty reliever still in there (Rob Murphy), and righty stud Dan Quisenberry spitting out sunflower seeds while sitting on the bench, I lose again.

My season is going up in flames, thanks in part to HAL's puzzling bullpen decisions. :?

No question, he makes bizarre decisions in all games, but in the 80's, I seem to see things work the way I set them up more often than in other games. I see my setup man come in when I want him to and my closer to come in when I want him to.

I even see guys that, once I figure out their cards and set their settings based on their strengths, actually get used that way and their era and whip start to come way down.
