long story short I had Parker, Strawberry, Evans (the RF) and Rice in a Tiger stadium team. I have tried to trade one of them but no one was interested. so Evans played first but I kept leaving messages that I wanted to trade him. Finally someone offers Rains for him. This is after 15 games and both players are doing poorly. I dont put a lot of stock in stats after only 50 ABs, but I had a bad feeling about Evans and Rains is always good (and I didnt have a lead off hitter). Meanwhile I have Frank White killing lefties and doing sub-.200 against righties. I am still trying to trade Parker, Straw or Rice (all are doing very welll) but I have ZERO takers.

I never played the board game. How bad really is a 4 at 2B? Is it worth it to keep Straw, Parker, Rice and Rains all in the lineup?

In the board game i would only play a 4 at 2nd if i had too. there are many gb 2b X on 7's. so you can count on it showing up a coupleof times a game, and a 4 means lots of singles. ss and 2b in my opion should be avoided, on the corners the E is prob more important than the range.

Agree with jjd...gb x's to 2b and ss are the most common on the pitcher's card, and a 4 will let through a LOT of extra singles. This is mitigated a bit by the low singles ratings in Tiger Stadium. I got Dave Steib in a trade in a different league that had been horrible (ERA over 5) but I noticed the manager was playing a 4 at SS often and sometimes at 2B. Steib's ERA was almost 2 runs less with my team with my 2 at 2b and ozzie at SS. My stadium was Oakland, so that accounts for some of the difference.

play raines at 2nd. what the hell

I've been doing it in a current league...I'm sure he's hurting the pitching (so the stats are not looking that great) but the team is winning so what else matters?

This was a post in the SOM Online forum. It talks about the cost of playing various ranges at 2b for an entire season.

Personally, I do not mind playing a 4 at 2b if I have built a team for offensive prowress. I started Jim Morrison at 2B in the Kingdome for an entire season before (4 e22). He made up for it in his production though.

You can't give up extra basehits up the middle, I think. So, I wouldn't worry about it.

The only thing about Raines that bugs me at 2B is his high E rating.

Since you have so muich offense, it might not hurt to try Raines at 2B. I've thought about before, but never been brave enough. Teams can win with one average fielder in the middle, but to carry a 4 up the middle with such a high E, well...He'll have to be productive to make up for the deficiency. Of course, an average season from Raines is better than most 2B.
