Playoff Tiebreaker

I posted this on the ATG site and didn't get a response. I know it is what it is, but I think the tiebreaker is stupid. Am I wrong?

I just finished a great season in a Play for a City league. Four teams finished with 83 wins, 2 in one division, 2 in another. The E and C were won by teams with 87 wins. One of the 83 win teams won the W. This left 3 teams tied for the wild card, 2 in the C and 1 in the W. I was one of the teams in the C. My record against the other two teams was 19-17, including 14-10 against the team in my division and the best of the three (the others were 16-17 and 10-11).

I assumed going in last night (Friday) that I needed to win 2 games to get the wild card. I won two, but then got beat by the tiebreak, which is apparently this:

Tiebreakers for a 3-way tie are, in order:
- Best record vs. teams within division
- Run differential
- Coin flip

The first tiebreak makes no sense unless the tie is between 3 teams in a division. Using run differential before head to head also makes no sense.

At the end of the day, my team failed in the last week (going 3-7) and that is why I didn't make the playoffs. However, I think the tiebreak system should be reconsidered.

Sour grapes or stupid system?
