Time for another hall-of-fame vote

Taking a page from Outta Leftfield, who got a fun Back-to-the-'80s Hall of Fame ballot going last year (http://forums-beta.sportingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=40581), I decided to post the just-released list of players on the new Hall of Fame Ballot.

Last year, in a vote that foreshadowed the actual vote, the only guy to make the cut with the BTT80s crowd was Sutter (though Blyleven, Gossage, Rice, and Trammel got some considerable support, too). Let's see what happens this year. Below is the list. The rule is to name as many as 10 guys on your ballot. (It's possible to submit a blank ballot, too, if you don't think anybody deserves to get in. Of course, with Dante Bichette on the ballot, I don't expect this option to come up.)

I would say yes to: Blyleven, Gossage, Lee Smith, Ripken, Gwynn & Trammell.

Here is my list according to deserving.

1. Tony Gwynn - Best pure hitter since Carew
2. Cal Ripken Jr. - Saved baseball as far as I am concerned
3. Mark McGwire - Nothing proven
4. Alan Trammell - It will be tough for him since Cal is a lock.
5. Andre Dawson - Extremely underrated.
6. Goose Gossage - If Sutter is in he deserves to be in.
7. Jack Morris - BIG game pitcher.
8. Don Mattingly - Even though he is a Yankee, dominant in his prime.

Terrible Omission - Sweet Lou Whitaker - King of 2nd baseman in the 80's

1. Tony Gwynn...he hit .394 in 1994!!!!
2. C. Ripken ...no brainer
3. M. McGwire ... 583 HRs is hard to ignore.
4. B. Blyleven ... Circle me Bert
5. A. Dawson ... I like the 8 gold gloves
6. T. John ... If I'm putting Bert on the card John probably belongs too
7. G. Gossage ... 301 Saves

Just missed:

Mattingly-4 dominant seasons, but that bad back killed his chances
D. Parker - 2712 Hits, 1493 RBIs
J. Rice - similar numbers to Parker
Morris - 3.90 ERA is pretty high
Canseco - 462 HRs, 1407 RBIs tough to ignore, but I will
Orel - Not enough wins, but how about 1988. Cy Young, NLCS MVP, WS MVP
Bobby Witt - Led the leagues in walks 3 times. Gotta love that OBP. Oh wait, he was a pitcher!

Bert Blyleven--GLARING omission for the hall; shoulda already been in.
Andre Dawson--speed/power, and many years among top 5 players in the game.
Rich "Goose" Gossage--best closer of his era
Tony Gwynn--duh
Orel Hershiser--200+ wins, and scoreless streak, plus great in playoffs
Mark McGwire--juise or not, was productive, even though injured
Jim Rice-too good for too many years
Cal Ripken Jr.--duh #2
Lee Smith--all time save leader for many years; did it with multiple teams
Alan Trammell--overshadowed by Ripken and Ozzie, but just as good many years
