Speaking from experience in a couple of '75 netplay leagues, J.R. struggles a bit. Too many walks on in the 6 to 8 range.

His pricing will be interesting. Low $4.00 max, just based on '79 being a good year. And that's probably being a bit generous.

Thanks, Bernie.

Any guesses on prices? Without really looking at it, I'd say $6.7M for Reggie (great offense, $12M season in 1969, good D, but not as good as Winfield overall - D in particular; actually, cards are similar to Winfields - Reggie's top card is better, but Winfield's 4th card is better than Reggie's, others are similar). Re: JR, I'd say $8.2. His cards are similar to Hershiser's, but his blowup card (75) is significantly worse (439/155).

JR's walks come with ridiculous K numbers.

I don't know if he will be as expensive as Hershier, but these cards look fanstastic. Even '75, while the whip is high, its all walks, not ballpark effects and few hits at all.

Take a look at Tanana's 75-77 seasons. I remember getting his cards as a kid and being amazed  as his stats and that I had no idea who he was. He should be up there $$ wise (better numbers than Higuera, Fernando or Blyleven). Here is the link:

Yes, but what are the other two years?? If they are not quality years, he could be really intersting. More of a Guidry or Gooden than a Blyleven or Soto.

I can't wait for the '72 Carlton, although I'm sure they're going to include '73.

JR's real life WHIPs for the 5 years are: 1.56, 1.28, 1.18, 1.21, and 1.09. By BTT80s standards, he'd be middle/upper tier, leaning toward middle. BTT70s will have more SP depth, I think.

In the 70s, remember that relief pitchers were used as much. Think about all the stud SPs: Seaver, Palmer, Hunter, Messersmith, Jenkins, Blue, and Carlton. The Perry brothers won a couple of Cy Youngs in the 70s. If Gibson is included (he won the CY in '70), there's another stud.

The K's don't help as much as you think. He'd be better off with a gbA. (Walk, KO, Walk, extra base hit off the batter's card = ouch.)

I think he'll wind up being like LaMar Hoyt...OK WHIP in real life that doesn't translate to consistent Strat performance.

I'd be willing to bet JR will be a pitcher that gets dropped quick--you'll have to have patience to sit through a walk-infested drubbing to discover which card he has. Most players aren't going to have the patience for that.
