1st time player looking for info

Postby Mashunga » Tue Dec 26, 2006 12:58 pm

I'm considering giving this game a try but know nothing about it and was wondering what all is involved and how does one play this game?

What am in for as far as commitment to playing this game?

What I mean is do I have to check in on my team every day or will the "game" adjust itself to injuries on my team?

Thanks for any info.

Check out the very useful newbie thread that I just bumped back to the top of the current page.

I would reccomend checking your teams on a daily basis no matter what TSN SOM game you are playing.

Mashunga...it's definitely worth drafting a team and taking it for a test run. It's a lot of fun trying to figure out which of the 5 years the players on your team have. That's why checking daily is actually pretty important to being successful at playing it. The game engine will make adjustments for you in your absence if a player gets injured, but if that injury reveals he has a crummy year you want to be on top of it to drop him and find a replacement.

Thats my major concern the time commitment that would be involved.

Its good to know that the game will make an adjustment in the event that I do'nt check in on my team.

Does the game pull someone from my team or does it "call up" someone from the free agents?

The game engine always selects a player from your team. Check this link to one of my current teams:

I have 2 players injured for tonights games. Hal (the game engine as we fondly call him/it) will of course select my other catcher for Dempsey. I'm not sure who Hal will select for Oglivie...it should be Baylor who plays left field for the first of the 3 games that will play tonight. Of course, Hal can be unpredictable. Hal put Will Clark in left field for 2 games earlier in the season due to the fact that I had no other player rated for that position healthy at that particular time.

Under no circumstance is a player pulled off the FA by Hal. Hal just does his best to substitute (or a reasonable facsimile therof) with what you give him.

By the way Mashunga...referring to the team I gave you the link to above...of the 23 players on that roster, only 13 of them were on my original drafted team. The rest were aquired through trading or FA drop/adds.

Keeping an eye on the progress, strengths/weaknesses of your team is a pretty important part of the game. Trying to figure out which cards you have makes it very interesting.

I really hope that doesn't scare you away because it really is THE fun part of playing the mystery card game. I would think a set-and-forget setup really would be pretty boring...and...why bother?

it can be fun theres not alot to it just keep and eye on it , it only takes a few minutes but! do keep and eye. why trust hal to do the right thing, when its simple just to see if you have and injury. you dont have to spend much time at all.

Thanks for all the information guys I really appreciate it and am trying to drum up some interest from around my "resident" forum/board to try and get a few people I know involved in it as well.

If I cant I probably still will get a team because it and your info has peaked my interest.

I see a post on the boards titled "start of a private league" where kidskid is trying to start a league with lower rated players. You might think about hooking up in there. Good luck and have a blast!!
