Newbie Ritual

Postby AdamPhoenix » Tue Nov 01, 2005 1:25 pm

Well from what I have seen, it is a ritual arond here that a newbie shows his first team in the public forum for ridicule and insults, and maybe even a suggestions. so here goes it (keep in mind, I had to start only 1s or 2s for starting positions, and could not spend more than $31M on hitters)

See below for link

BTW...We are playing in Atlanta Fulton.

I gaive you my advice earlier. People also need to know that you must start only 1's and 2's.

But in general you need OBA (somehow)

The link is bad also. To get a link to your team do.

1. Click the stastics link
2. The click on yoiur team in the list of team
3. Copy the URL in the address bar

My 2 cents

Postby genevajack » Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:54 pm

1) You are spending Way too much on relief. Id keep one RP-then dump everyone else for .75 relivers. Let HAL manage the relievers (don't set setup men or closers). (This advice was given to me with my first team-I resisted it but then found the consensus opinion was the correct opinion.)

2) You need more POP at 1B 3B and DH. You need BP HRs. You can hide 3s and 4s there.

E Davis? Horner? G Davis? Decinces? Daryl Evans?

3) Dump Coleman-his OBP is very low-not good for Fulton. Get a more powerful OF. Bradley? J Cruz?

Didn't Know it was a theme league.

Forget my 2 cents. They don't apply to extreme rules.

GJ, I can see your advice about RP, however the rest of it

Postby AdamPhoenix » Tue Nov 01, 2005 3:00 pm

unfortunately will not work. I was limited to only being able to start at each position, fielders with a 1 or 2 rating, and then my total of all hitters couldn't exceed $31M.

The only thing I see is if I dumped relievers would be to either improve with a couple of individual relievers or improve on my starting staff. But maybe it is me or what, but a staff of Hershiser, Dr. K, Soto, and Tudor should be considered a solid staff.

I'm not happy that I don't have a solid closer, but I'm hoping Gossage/Hernandez can be the same thing McDowell/Orosco were in 1986.

That's ok, and believe me if I wasn't restricted all of my

relievers would cost probably what two of mine now do, and i'd have a leadoff hitter who hit 25+ homers.

You don't need a closer. You just need quality IP and you have the horses for that. I would leave the manager relief settings empty, relief to normal, and let HAL run the show. Once HAL tips his hand make some checkbox setitng on the players card.
