Any of you guys ever use Dan Schatzeder as a middle reliever with any type of success? I am contemplating adding him to my current team that plays in Fenway. I need a left reliever that can eat up some innings and there really isn't anyone else available.

I've had success with him as a starter. He'd probably do OK in middle relief, if you draw the right card and have the cash. ($3.83 is probably too much for a middle reliever---you might be better off getting 2 or 3 cheaper relievers.)

He can be a servicable SP, but I don't think i'd use him as an RP unless you're quite desparate. I'm sure there would be better options of RPs available than Schatz.

When I use a 5 man rotation, I frequently end up picking up Schatz (whether I pick him up before the season starts or as a replacement picked up during the season). I'd say you'd have a 40% chance of him being an effective SP. As an RP, I'm sure it would be less.

I am not desperate, I am just looking for a better option than what I currently am using which is Bob Kipper. Cash shouldn't be an issue, if I release Mike Schmidt. Schmidt has been horrible. I picked him up on a whim when someone else dropped him really early. He is hitting around .150 with 2 homers. I have Boggs on my team as well. Boggs has been serving as the DH so I can get rid of Schmidt, pick-up a cheap back up at 3B and have a bunch of cash to play with on relievers. The only solid left not currently employed is Al Holland. Any luck with him?

Holland can be sensational and, if you have the money, he's worth going for. I had his 83 card with a division-winning team in pitcher-friendly Comiskey Park. His numbers:

If you want to go big-bucks for a reliever, he's one of the best ones out there.

I started him in the bullpen, then moved him to starter. He can git-r-done in either role.

Thanks guys. I noticed that both Schatzeder and Holland were in pitcher friendly parks. I am going to give Schmidt a few more series to see if he can start hitting. If not, I think I am going to go with Holland and Pena. That should be a good lefty/righty combo out of the pen with Reardon closing.
