Well I start another team tonight and have 2 going, although not very well. Just looking for some constructive criticism on my 15th team. If I ever learn to use a pitching staff correctly I think that I will be dangerous  .http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/80s/team/team_other.html?user_id=64079

Any advice would be helpful we start tonight.

Thanks Ugly

Don't think you're OF of Raines-Wilson-Gwynn has enough power for the Kingdome. But you're in a Catch-22, because you need the D, but need power too. I'd try to trade Gwynn for Thomas, Murphy, Lynn, etc., then drop Wilson for a power hitter in RF.

Brooks at SS isn't good. That 3e37 will kill you. Others will probably disagree, but I believe that defense and low e ratings are more important in hitters parks. Your pitchers are going to have to work for outs...no sense in making it harder on them with poor defense. And that's not even factoring in the DP factor.

For the same reason, you might want to choose between HoJo and Mitchell for DH, then pick up a good def. 3B who can hit a little too, like DeCinces, Wallach, Nettles, etc. But I don't think this is critical.

Sure bet though, is that if you drop any of the above, the mystery card will make it turn out to be a bad move.

I pretty much completely agree with Toi_San, here. If you're in a HR park, you've pretty much [b:42cceaaad9]got[/b:42cceaaad9] to hit more HRs than your opponent--or else why are you there? That means you need at least 250 HR--maybe more. And it's almost impossible to hit that many with this lineup. As Toi_San implies, Raines is a keeper.

His high OBP and moderate power make him very valuable. Also, he doesn't really have a bad year. But you should try to trade Gwynn, who despite his high BA isn't a great OBP man and whose limited power is a real problem in this park. Gwynn is however, a great and popular player, so trading him for an OF with power should be possible. I would be inclined to keep Mitchell and use him as a DH, but move out both HoJo and Brooks--Toi_Sans's suggestions are right on there. But you could keep HoJo to DH if you'd rather. He's cheaper and does have a lot of BPHR.

DeCinces is often available and is a good choice at 3B--esp if you get one of his two monster years. There are a lot of other good 3B's who can field and hit. You could also platoon somebody like Nettles or Pags with Presley. I also agree about Wilson--no power and limited OBP. You might try trading him, since he does have value in other parks, esp pitchers parks. When I'm looking for a trade, I often look for a guy with a park that's opposite to mine and a player I want that doesn't fit that park.

Grich is good for the Kingdome. Hang on to him--at least to see if you get one of his monster years. Fisk is a great choice. He has a LOT of BPHR. And of course, Mattingly is great. If all the good fielding SS are gone--and they probably are--you might consider picking up Smalley, who is cheap, usually available, a very good hitter, and will field better than Brooks or HoJo. So, you've got the basis of an excellent lineup here--your five keepers: Fisk, Mattingly, Grich, Mitchell and Raines-- and with some tweaking you could have a real winner of a batting order.

For my taste, your pitching staff is a bit overweighted toward the bullpen. I'd be inclined to cash in two of your three expensive relievers and put the money into starting pitching. Personally, I rarely spend more than about 5M total on the bullpen--sometimes less--but maybe that's just me.

Just my two cents...

Ug,

I am quickly discovering the secret to this game is not the big guns, but the little 3-4M guys that fall into good years. I am learing to use a lot mer platooning to get needed production. For this work though, you have to have some legitimate studs.

With that being said, I am not a fan of Mattingly in Kingdome. He does not have enough power IMO. You have to remember though, I am not a mattingly fan. I would think your teams needs more OBP. The theory goes that when you do hit homers, you have people on base. I don't think Wilson is what you want in LF. See if you cant get Singleton. Alvin Davis is a favorite of mine. He could replace Mattingly and allow you to get a real 3b. I Like Hojo in your park. I would try to get your weaknesses. covered. with low cost power guys.

Well I put a couple of offers out we will see if I get any takers.
Gwynn-Mitchell for Schmidt-Carter
Gwynn for Strawberry-Ready
I don't know if they will even check before the league starts, if not I am going to go with it and see what happens.

Ugly

Dropped Wilson, picked up Bradley. Little more power and stilla 2 in CF.
