This is my first league and I am really looking forward to "Back to the 80's. (Hope back to the 70's is comign soon!). I have always placed value on Switch Hitters but am not sure if they are priced higher and therefore do not provide as much value. Any thoughts?

Don't forget to check the player's L/R rating. A switch hitter may not be as strong from one side of the plate as the other. Good luck and welcome to Strato.

I agree that switch-hitters might a little more valuable. Pricing doesn't seem to be affected much.

However, in the 80s, the value is lessened because of the mystery card. You often don't know if you're facing a reverse righty or reverse lefty (or have a reverse righty or lefty). Sometimes, you need a "E" hitter for balance.

Take someone like Mumphrey. He switches, but is a definite platoon player against RHP's. UL Washington traditionally hits lefties much better. It was unfortunate that the Royals tried to make him a switch hitter. He was a good RH hitter.

One thing that can be tricky about switch hitters is that their platoon advantage is often inconsistent--one year they'll hit lefties better. Another year they hit righties better. So if you're trying to plan a platoon with a switch hitter, you may end up having guessed wrong.

But I think switch-hitting is a plus on the whole, especially with a balanced player, since they always have the platoon advantage vs. the pitcher....
