MIAMI (Reuters) - Former Major League Baseball pitcher Jeff Reardon was arrested in Florida in connection with a jewelry store robbery, police said on Tuesday.
A four-time all-star who earned more than $2 million a season at the height of his 16-year career, Reardon walked into a jewelry store on Monday and "handed an employee a note stating that they were being robbed and that he had a gun," Palm Beach Gardens Police said in a news release.
Reardon was arrested at a nearby restaurant and the stolen money was recovered, police said.
Reardon had 367 saves as one of the dominant relief pitchers of his era, according to Baseball Almanac. He logged 73 wins and 77 losses with an earned-run average of 3.16 in a career that began in 1979 with the New York Mets.
He also played for the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees before retiring in 1994.
Reardon, who was being held at the Palm Beach County jail, played in three
World Series and earned more than $2.5 million per season from the Boston Red Sox in 1991 and 1992, Baseball Almanac said.

Enquiring minds want to know if you've been knocking off jewelry stores? I mean, two visits to Brazil inside of three months? Its either banks/jewelry stores or a member of the fairer sex beckoning...what's your secret to these great trips? Is it where you go to get seclusion from the rigors of managing an 80s team? And how do you concentrate on business while in Brazil? The scenery must be fantastic! 8)
It is sad about Reardon. Hope he didn't run out of money or something, and it was a medication induced event. Many ball players weren't properly coached about how to save/invest their dollars to provide income for life after baseball.

Most depressed people rob jewelry stores because the shine of the jewels brightens up their view of reality. They can't help themselves. But laws are laws!!!!! And I think it is high time that Fox News ran an expose of this serious social danger. It is an epidemic that threatens the fabric of our society.
What happened to the good old days when depressed people took their medication like they were supposed to??? This is about personal responsibility and we cannot allow the depressed and unmedicated to hold us and our [b:851bdd83fc]children[/b:851bdd83fc] hostage as they have their way in our nation's jewelry stores.
I know there are bleeding hearts out there who will say Jeff Reardon deserves our pity and compassion. But how are other depressed people going to understand that they have to take their medication lest our streets will be overrun by a million jewel-seeking Hydes. I feel sorry for Mr. Reardon's family but I think we will have to make an example of him and execute him. We can't be soft in the face of this menace ever again.

Well this should up his draft card value significantly. He can now be added to theme teams for drug users and folks with jail time.
Always made me think of those names Chris Berman would assign to players. I used to make up names myself for those who did bad deeds.
