Most of this depends on the ballpark.

Given a neutral park, I would rank them like this:

Phelps
Davis
Oglive
Boche

Phelps will need a platoon most anywhere. Davis is less extreme, but does have 1 dog year. Oglive is good but not great and Boche is servicable but lacks the SLG of the others.

Very well stated by Sykes

--I'm a Davis fan partly based on cost, plus he is a good enough defender to play 1B, works in most parks, and doesn't need a platoon in two of his years. Don't want to publicize him though, so that he gets hard to draft, so lets keep it quiet.

Other cost effective LH DH's include Easler, Kemp and Kruk. Plus Polonia and Bush, among others, are more than passable cheapies. I've used them all at one time or another. All of these but Easler are also usable on defense.

In a neutral to pitchers park I think I prefer Davis to Oglivie. He provides consistent OBP and a bit of pop. Oglivie has much more upside in a HR park I think. I think he has 4 playable years in a HR park and I think 2 years that can be monstrous. Phelps I have only triede once or twice briefly. His cards look good but I have yet to have success with him.
