Anaheim team, talk to me

Postby latertaters » Fri Mar 27, 2009 7:45 am

I lost my mind, and put a team in Anaheim....looking for suggestions...
My division foes are Yankee, Royals, and Busch....the rest of the league is mostly nuetral or pitchers parks, with one Kingdome, and one Riverfront..
Obviously since I'm picking first in waivers, my draft was not the best.
Here is what I have going into waivers...with 10.2 mil to spend...

SP
Carlton
Viola
Plunk (drop)
Barker
RP
Assenmacher
Stanley
Farzier
Crim
Dawley

C. Tettleton
1B Murrary
2B Oquendo
SS Larkin
3B Bonilla/Cabell platoon
LF Raines
CF Thomas
RF ????
DH Gamble/ platoon with ???
I dropped S. Henderson, and M.Marshall

I've got the first pick in waivers, do I go for Power, Power and more Power??

I played a Decade league out of Anaheim and have played there a few times afterward since I grew an affinity for the place.

The things that stand out for me are;

get another starter that has low BPHR and is right-handed to balance Lefty and Sweet Music. Rogers was my ace and was great with very low BPHR.

you've got the switch-hitting thing sewn up but you don't have a full-time lefty that you would use against reverse lefties. With Right-field open I don't suppose Parker is available. Jackson, Strawberry? Dw Murphy (Thomas to right)?

Barker wouldn't be my favourite for there. Surely somebody took Fenway. If you can't trade him to Fenway for somebody you want, then splash out and get Gubicza. He also was very effective given he can be low BPHR.

Maybe you can get a guy who could be a platoon DH/3B (instead of Cabell) by getting a Presley or Buechele (Steve could be good to play 2B when you have to move Jose to SS if Larkin is down).

If you have enough dough I'd spend it on a closer instead of Frazier.

As for the OF, not many top of the line RFs left,D Evans,Canseco, would be
my first choices, as for CF Ricky H.is available, move Thomas to right??

SP, Gubicza is gone,Ruess, B. Smith, Bannister, Lamp, Sanderson are
still their...I plan to change 2 RPs, several viable .75 guys remain...

Presley is available

Haven't experience Anaheim, don't plan to. You have to take Henderson and he will help you with the other teams in your division. You can alwaty trade him for riches beyond your comprehension. I don't like Gorman Thomas except in the Kingdome. Perhaps, you can trade him.

Your team is actually pretty good and with a top waiver pick should really improve it.

Every other consideration (park, needs) go out the door if Rickey is available. Get him. Deal him if need be. Yeah Gorman could go to right, but maybe a little wasted there. He might be dealable to somebody who didn't get a 1 CF.

So with Rickey H. and Raines in the OF, do I keep Gorman in right..
or try to get D Evans or Conseco in his place...I haven't had luck with
Evans, but he does well for others, and I like his walks, and better OBP...
