Buckner steals home (but I have don't steal on)

Hard to complain since he won the game in extra innings but what gives with stealing (especially home) when I have don't steal on. I lost another game because Burgmeier is set to face no righties but does and gets shelled. Are the settings meaningless?

less meaningful then we would like. Burgmeier will still have to face a lot of righties. you can get that to work a little better if you have plenty of bullpen options, and you have burgmeier set for quick hook and max 1-2 IP. all those will see Tom used more as a lefty specialist.

Buckner's steal was probably a failed squeeze or hit and run.

Can you post a link to the box score?
A failed suicide squeeze seems most likely.

I would think that was a missed squeeze play as well but in general I just love this game except the meaningless settings. I don't mind losing because I'm stupid but I hate losing when I have all my base stealers set on steal more and then I go a three game series with no one even attempting a steal and then the next night I face Tony Pena and I take them off steal more and they try to steal all the time, for example. It just drives me crazy. Why can't HAL obey the settings?

Buckner did not steal home. McGee stole second and the ball was thrown into the outfield. Buckner scored on the error.

I see what you are saying. The story said Buckner stole home and I believed it. The box score shows McGee stealing and apparently error allowed Buckner to score. It is odd that the story doesn't match the box score. Thanks.

I hate that move, hal always tries to steal second, with runners on the corners.

It would be acceptable, but hal also does it with runners on the corners, in a tie game, in the late innings, with less than one out.

It is annoying, rarely works.

Our consciences live better in Jack Murphy stadium, and the '70's Fenway, where managers don't have these problems.

Good Luck.

I actually wish HAL would attempt more double steals. I have found that if the runner on third has even a remote chance of being safe at home (1-5 or 1-6 perhaps) then the catcher will not throw to second, regardless of who is trying to steal second. HAL will have the catcher hold the ball even more often if the guy trying to teal second has a lower safe chance than the guy trying to steal home.
It doesn't happen that way all the time, but quite frequently.

The double steal is my best friend in the CDROM game.
