Live draft proxy question

Postby voovits » Fri May 01, 2009 8:16 am

I'm trying to set up proxies for the 70s/80s live draft and I have a question.

I think I understand the round/group/priority thing, and if I do then this scenario I'm trying to create will be impossible.

Lets say I have a scenario where I want 2 guys grouped together, but not with priority.
For example:

I want my first pick to be G. Brett, so he goes first
Now I also want to target Schmidt, but I don't want to pick him second, if Brett goes off the board, I want Seaver instead, if miss Seaver, I want Jenkins. After Seaver or Jenkins is picked, I target Killebrew next. My fourth choice would be Schmidt, but only if I missed out on Brett in the first pick, otherwise Cedeno would be next.
So my proxies would look like this
Player round/group/priority/delete
1. Brett 0/1/1/N
2. Seaver 0/2/1/N
3. Jenkins 0/2/2/Y
4. Killebrew 0/3/1/N
5. Schmidt ?/?/?/?
6. Cedeno 0/4/1/N

I don't know how I would set Schmidt. If I put him in group 1 with Brett, set at 2 priority, and delete to yes, wouldn't that bump him up to second on the list and get drafted before Seaver?

I have an actual scenario similar to this in the draft I'm doing and want to know how to set it that way. I have not experimented with changing the numbers around because I have a lot of guys on the list, I don't want to mess anything else up.

If anyone could offer any help I would appreciate it.

Thanks!
James

Forget the Rounds. I never use that feature for proxies. I simply go by Groups. Always leave the Rounds at 0 and pretend that doesn't even exist.

In your scenario put Brett in Group 1, Priority 1.

Then put Seaver in Group 2, Priority 1. Next put Jenkins at Group 2, Priority 2 and put Y in the box that reads "delete if group picked". This means that if Seaver is picked your proxy for Jenkins is deleted.

Then list Killebrew as Group 3, Priority 1.

There is no way to set up a proxy for Schmidt that would guarantee that you don't get both Brett and Schmidt in your scenario unless you put him in Group 1 with Brett. The problem with that is that if Brett is gone you could get Schmidt BEFORE Seaver, Jenkins or Killebrew. If you listed Schmidt in Group 4 in this scenario and don't monitor the draft it would be possible to get both Brett and Schmidt.

If you can monitor the draft a few times per day you really wouldn't need to set up such elaborate proxy scenarios I wouldn't think. If you would be truly worried about this scenario the best thing would be to not list Schmidt and if Brett, Seaver, Jenkins and Killer are all gone the draft would simply have to wait for you to log in and make your pick. That would be the safest way to go in your example.

OK, I didn't think that there was a way, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Thanks a lot for the help.
