Why are certain players, clemmens, rickey Henderson, not listed instead the number and team is all you have to go by. Is it due to some mlb rights to these players?

I would guess that these players were still active at the time in the majors when the 80s was created which may have been related to MLB legal nuances. (reasonable guess?) :D

I believe Chess is right. All those players were still playing at the time.

well we get McGwire, Canseco, Ripken Jr., Gwynn, and 2001 was their last year playing... we don't get Rickey Henderson who played his last game in 2003... so if we find someone who retired in 02 we'll know when the cut-off is... since there arent more players whos names are excluded I assume 03 was when this got started. On a funny note, New York Met #47(John Franco), didn't play 1 game for the Mets in the 80's... he was a Red from 84-89, then became a Met in 90.

New York #47 is Jesse Orosco, not Franco. He doesn't have a card in the game for some reason.

Jesse Orosco retired in 2003. which is why he is NY Met #47. Entropy8686 is right. The cut-off for real names was in 2002. Players who retired in 2001 or before have their names. Players who retired 2003 or later have their numbers. I am not sure about who retired in 2002 but 2002 was the 1st year for the adoption of Steroid testing. Coincidence? Mr. Clemens?, Mr. Santiago?

Is that when Stratomatic went to the online game, 2002?
