Howdy,

How have ya'll done using Patek as your everday SS? He appears to be an attractive choice. Usually I choose Metzger, but if Roger gets taken ahead of me in the draft, hard decisions have to be made:
Spend [i:5c8120c5c2]double[/i:5c8120c5c2] the money or more to get a "1" at SS in Bowow or Belanger? Go cheap for Brinkman-if he's available! What have your experiences been like with Kansas City's Freddie Patek?

Howdy,

[i:3fb55b6f1b]Nobody[/i:3fb55b6f1b] uses Freddie Patek? How has he performed for you?

There are better choices than Freddy

avg: .234
obp: .289
slg: .310
ops: .600
ab: 70,298

http://users1.jabry.com/stratrat/hitter_cards.asp?playerid=39308&ballpark=All

Dent (.240 .284 .317 .601 83,534) will get you the same offense (minus the sb) for less money http://users1.jabry.com/stratrat/hitter_cards.asp?playerid=32963&ballpark=All

Duffy (.232 .274 .325 .600 43,183)
too. http://users1.jabry.com/stratrat/hitter_cards.asp?playerid=33265&ballpark=All

But you should really consider

Wills (.277 .322 .332 .654 107,215) http://users1.jabry.com/stratrat/hitter_cards.asp?playerid=43006&ballpark=All

Kessinger (260 .321 .325 .646 123,052) http://users1.jabry.com/stratrat/hitter_cards.asp?playerid=36362&ballpark=All

Harrelson (.245 .328 .309 .637 80,144) http://users1.jabry.com/stratrat/hitter_cards.asp?playerid=34986&ballpark=All

Interesting

Freddie Patek, known as "The Flea". I forgot he was on the 70s roster and I have used everyone except him. I am surprised Patek didn't get more walks at 5 foot 4.

He is ranked as the 14th player all time for Kansas City. Someone, anyone should try him sometime. I understand he emails the Sporting News weekly to see if anyone used him on their team.

Make the man happy and stick him on your roster, if not for a few days! :D

Does he get no customer service response like everyone else? :D

Patek wants to know?

Howdy,

Chess2899: Are you serious about Patek asking TSN if anyone in SOM is using him on thier team? Shoot, if he's available after this afternoon's supplementary draft, I'll pick him up!

Howdy,

If Freddie Patek somehow finds this post, I'd like him to know that he's now a member of the DFW Spurs and will be my "everyday SS" in Arlington stadium.

Freddie lives with his wife Gerri in Kansas City. He has a daughter Heather and 2 grandkids. You can reach him via the Royals. He answers all letters himself and would even call you if you leave your phone number.

I guess he only gets a couple of autograph requests per year. If you are short, he might even invite you to his house.

Freddie Patek is now officially on a 70s manager's roster! :D :D :D

He would be proud! My job is done! 8-)

Fred occasionally comes on Royals radio and/or television broadcasts to visit. The most interesting thing I find about him is that he has a deep bass voice not at all in keeping with his stature. He is, like Chess wrote, a regular KC guy.
