Unique ATG3 v.2 post WWII only league

Postby BDWard » Tue Oct 06, 2009 12:58 am

Hello everyone. I hope things are going well in your online Strato leagues.

I've started a new league. The name of the league is "ATG3 Post WWII only". It is a private league with a $100 mil cap and DH.

What makes the league unique is that it is an ATG3 v.2 league that uses players from the years 1946 and later only. The usual Sporting News online Strat-o-matic ATG3 v.2 league subsets are pre and post 1961, but the post 1961 subset does not include such '60s stalwarts as Aaron, Banks, Matthews and others, so if one wishes to play with players from the modern baseball ERA those players are excluded. In this league those players are included, along with Berra, Campanella, Snider, Pierce, Spahn and many others who have better cards than in the ATG4 post WWII subset. As an added bonus, several players, including Ted Williams, Dom Dimaggio and Bob Feller, who are not included in the ATG4 post WWII subset, are included here. However, all managers are on the honor system not to take players prior to 1946. Having experienced the integrity of the online Strato community, I feel confident that the managers who join this league will abide by the honor system and follow the rules so that the league will be a success.

The password is "Honor system". If you wish to get into the league, you must enter the password without the quotation marks. [b:332c98b5af]The reason I've made it a private league is so that everyone would know that the seasons being used are from 1946 and later only. IF YOU CAN'T LIVE WITH THIS, DON'T GET IN![/b:332c98b5af]

If you've been playing in '70s or '80s leagues and are frustrated by having just a 1 in 60 chance of getting the best cards for Brett, Puckett, Cedeno, Yount and others, this league is for you, as those cards are used in ATG3 and are not used in ATG4. Plus, since there is no mystery card to track, this league will be far less time intensive than the '70s or '80s leagues. Also, if you've been playing in ATG4, check out the players from ATG3 v.2 and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Many of the players have better years in ATG3 than in ATG4.

This is a unique league and promises to be competitive and fun. I hope you consider joining. With ATG3 play declining since the intro of ATG4, it is a rare opportunity to have a chance to manage a different set of players.

Feel free to spread the word to others who may be interested.

I'm looking forward to doing battle with you.

May the Strato gods be with you. - Bernie W

Any ATG3 ballpark can be used

Postby BDWard » Wed Oct 07, 2009 12:42 pm

I received a question from another member, gfg001, about whether any ATG3 ballpark could be chosen, or only those parks 1946 and later. My reply is below.

gfg001, thank you for your inquiry. Great question! You can choose from any of the ATG3 parks. The only league restriction is in the player pool as post WWII, being 1946 and later.

There are some really unique ballparks, in which fielding a team should be challenging and fun.

There are 3 teams in the league now and I have a commitment from several other managers to join, so there is interest in the league and it is beginning to fill.

I hope you get in. To the best of my knowledge, no one else has tried running a post WWII league with the ATG3 players, so the league is unique and should be very competitive and a lot of fun.

I look forward to playing against you. - Bernie W

"Trued up" roster to 1946 and later players after draft.

Postby BDWard » Wed Oct 07, 2009 11:22 pm

Hello again everyone. I received the following message from gfdwarf07 and thought that I would pass it on, along with my answer, for all to read, as he raises a great point that I hadn't considered:

[quote:4371a4a207]looks like fun Bernie - I signed-up.

I presume all owners will need to "true up" their roster after the autodraft, as some are bound to inadvertently be given pre-'46 players.

Thanks,
Dan [/quote:4371a4a207]

Dan: You know, one thing that I can count on from the online Strato community is that it is collectively WAY SMARTER than any one individual. You make an outstanding point. [b:4371a4a207]Yes, managers will have to "true up" their rosters after the draft to 1946 and later players if they are randomly assigned pre WWII players by draft-o-matic (DOM) to resolve draft conflicts. [/b:4371a4a207] Thanks for pointing this out. It could make for a very interesting waiver draft and post waiver draft period.

I'll make sure that I post your message and my reply on the various other Strato forums.

Thanks for joining the league. I look forward to playing you. - Bernie W

WHERE ARE ALL THE GREAT MANAGERS HIDING?

Postby BDWard » Wed Oct 14, 2009 6:22 pm

I don't have a lot of online Strato experience, but I've been taking the online Strato tour through various leagues and am 3 for 3 in making the playoffs and have a ring to boot. So I'm feeling my oats and decided to start the ATG3 v. 2 post WWII league. There are a few other up and coming managers in the league as well.

The question is, where are all the good experienced managers hiding? YES, I'M CALLING YOU OUT! I WANT A CHANCE TO FLEX MY ONLINE STRATO MUSCLES AGAINST THE TRUE RINGER MANAGERS. BRING IT ON AND SEE IF YOU CAN STOP ME! GET IN THIS LEAGUE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

The password is "Honor system" without the quotes.

Have a nice day! - Bernie W
