While doing some research on players on my current 70s team, I discovered that Willie Davis passed away just last month. I don't recall having read anything about it.

He's doing well on my team. In fact, it appears that if you don't get his San Diego season, that every other one is very similar. It's the first time I've ever had him on my team.

Given his "1" rating in center field, its surprising that he has the distinction of committing three errors in one inning in a World Series.

Thanks for telling me that. Many Sabermathemeticians, believe that if he hadn't been playing in the 60's, in Dodger Stadium, with those H&R teams, he'd have had a good shot at getting 3,000 hits.

He set his own brand. He probably liked Montreal, better than L.A, and took off for Japan, when he had a lot of good years left, in American baseball. He was a journeyer. Not a journeyman. He looked at life differently, than most MLB players.

I suppose the life lesson, in that '66 series, is that making three errors in an inning, doesn't make you a bad person. Or a bad fielder. Just a man capable of making 3 mistakes in 10 minutes. I've done that. Um- I take that back, that was rare. (I have done 2, Willie made the record.) At least the fielding errors didn't end up with police reports. It was the last game Koufax pitched.

Koufax, had the classiest statement. When the team returned to the dugout, after the 3 errors, he said, "Let's remember who helped get us here."

I would argur that the entire Dodger offense of the 60's is vastly underrated...that park really neutered some players...can you say Frank Howard. The book [i:ad47943f13]Whatever Happened To The HOF[/i:ad47943f13] by Bill James gives a good breakdown on how good some of those guys were offensively...oh yeah, they were a pretty good defensive unit as well!
