How can a reliever start a game?

Postby Jimbo123 » Wed Aug 25, 2010 5:46 pm

I am currently in a 70's league. When I looked at the scheduled starting pitchers for tonight's game, my opponent is scheduled to start Tom Hall, a pure reliever (R4). In the past, I've seen relievers start when there are no available starters due to injuries. That's not the case here, however, as my opponent has available starters. Can someone explain how this can occur?

You can put the pope in there but you can't fool HAL...See what really happens after the game. Hall in some years was a Starter Reliever, but if he has a starter available HAL with take care of your problem.

Most commonly, i see is if you have someone slated to start later in the series, or even early in the next series, HAL will make sure they are rested, so they will be fresh. but, that can mean you don't have any starters who are ready to go.

Did that manager drop a starter for a new one during the day? HAL would list a reliever in place of the departed starter until game time if there was no other rested starter on the roster when the FA transaction was made.

Jimmy C appears to have analyzed the situation correctly. Hall didn't start. Coleman did and he was acquired on the day the game was played. He also did a number on my team, but that hasn't been too difficult a task for most teams during this season.

Thanks for your reply.
