Finally Won A Championship!!!

Postby matthewfarmer » Mon Aug 30, 2010 11:59 am

Well it "only" took me 25 tries, but I finally won an 80s championship. Earlier this summer, with 20 teams in the books, I bit the bullet and bought a five pack figuring I should be able to win a championship with one of those teams. My two best teams from the five pack had the best record in their leagues but were both bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the wild card team. The third team just tanked and the fourth team putzed along to medioricity.

My fifth and final team finished 90-72 and closed out the regular season going 3-7. The team secured a wild card, beating out the closest competitor by a mere one game. The team then came to life and somehow beat a 107 win team 3 games to 1 in the semi-finals and eventually won the series, 4 games to 1, against the team that beat it out for the division crown.

It feels good to have finally won one. And, if I may say so, I felt I "deserved" this one after having my two best teams bounced, LOL. Here is the squad:

I previously hedged my bets by buying my 26th team before this one won so I have two credits to play with. I may try 70s and 90s teams though I must admit the 80s game is my favorite since it has all the players of my youth and back when I collected cards big time and had all day to play dice baseball.

Cheers all,

Matt

Congratulations Matt. Job well done. I like the '80s game better than the '70s and I think I will like it better than the '90s. '80s leagues are going to be hard to fill for awhile until the '90s craze plays itself out. I may try a '90s team in the next week or so myself.

Doing a "little better" in the 70's thankfully ;-)

Matt,
I feel your pain. I just won my first championship with my 37th team.

No longer the Buffalo Bills, are we now the NY Jets? :)

My 24th 70s or 80s team was a 70's team that won the championship tonight.

66 games into the season, had the worst record in the league, ended up with the best regular season record. Won the championship with a sweep- 3 extra inning games... Feels sweet to finally win!

I don't know how to post the link, it was TSN_18461

Following my above post. 23 teams with no championship and then finally won one as posted above. Tonight completed my next team after the first championship.... and won my 2nd championship in a 7 game series. Shocked I went 0-23 and now two straight. It feels good to finally get a few free credits.
