Don't understand HAL substitution

BTT 90s: Liriano pinch ran for the catcher Nilsson in the 8th which was fine. But then he stayed in the game to play 3B, taking out Gary Gaetti. Liriano is 4e32 at 3B, Gaetti is a 3e15. Why did HAL take out Gaetti? I can't help but think one of the singles in the 10th was a GBx to third (not that Gaetti is all that great defensively either, but I need all the help I can get...)

HAL is stupid, get use to it. The only solution is to check the don't pinch run for box, but that has its draw backs. Maybe Gary got a cramp in ther dugout and couldn't return

Tie game, HAL wants to get that run and will leave in the better OPS when deciding what to do with a PR before just throwing him away.

I'd bet that Gaetti is stinking up offensively and hitting maybe .210 with a SLG under .400.

Gaetti vs R (which was who was in at the time) has a .337 OBP and .489 SLG. Liriano ($750k) .174 OBP and .279 SLG. AND, just to clarify an earlier response, he did not pinch run for Gaetti, he pinch ran for someone else then stayed in to replace Gaetti at 3B.

HAL does stuff like that all the time and it doesnt seem to have much to do with the better offensive player. Generally, HAL's management of defensive positions and balancing of defense vs. offense is sorely lacking. I dont know how many times my defensive ss or 2b has been injured and HAL has moved someone from another position to play ss/2b with a "4" rating and then brings in my backup defensive ss/2B to play that other player's position.

He seems to like to keep pinch hitters and runners in the game over other players. He wont take out an offensive superstar, but he will take out an average or weak hitter just because he likes to keep pinch runners and hitters in. Just another reason (or the main reason) I dont play no DH leagues. Personally, I like YF's suggestion. I dont think the marginal benefit of having pinch runners (unless they are "AA" and set to steal) is worth the mismanagement potential.
