[quote:05bbf51e8c="LMBombers"]Langston, Eric King and Dusty Baker all have bad reps from the 80's game but I have used them, especially Baker who generally does well for me. [/quote:05bbf51e8c]
I actually agree with you assessment of Baker. I don't quite understand why he has a bad rep. He could be quite good actually.
King and Langston would be better if they were cheaper.
King IMO has 2 usable seasons, and neither of them are really lights out. He also generally does a good job of keeping the ball in the park, and because of the HR percentages, it's generally easy to tell if you have one of his good seasons. However, he's not even a * starter and 5.62M is quite high for what you get.
Langston IMO is the poster boy of overpriced. The overall on base numbers are bad for all 5 seasons, but it's because his walks are high. He has maybe 2 seasons I would consider keeping, but for 7.07M, it's just not worth it. When the salaries for these players were made, there was too much of an emphasis on walks and strikeouts. Strikeouts drive the price up too much and walks don't drop the price enough. Since Langston has a lot of both, he gets screwed. It's also why Nolan Ryan costs so much.
All of the above listed players I would and have used in the past.
However, the same things mentioned about Langston could also be said for Mitch Williams, he is a player I won't ever use because he's overpriced by 2.98M. At least they priced him right in the 90s game.
