ss in 80's Wrigley..Bowa or Concepcion?

Postby birdey44593 » Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:55 pm

In 80's league Wrigley, feel I have good power. Question is to go with Bowa for less errors, but much less offensive pop or Concepcion. Worried about Dave's e24 prolonging innings and leading to big ones. Your thoughts?

c Boone
1b Murray
2b Barrett
ss Bowa or Concepcion
3b Decinces

They are both 2's so I would take Concepcion and his power, especially against lh's, in Wrigley.

e24 at SS is actually not that bad. the default for really poor/inexperienced SSs is 4e48. Tony Fernandez had a season with the Reds where he was like a 2e88. SS gets a lot of X chances, so making 24 errors over the course of 162 games is really not bad. If it was OF or C, then it'd be excessive.

Each range rating at ss is worth about 20 errors, so a 2e24 is the same as a 3e4 or a 1e44. That is solid defense for the price, and I'd go for Concepcion for at least some power (don't want to lose too many bphr).

thank you for your information. I was kind of thinking the same thing. I actually kept them both for now. Will use Larry when Davey gets hurt and for late inning defensive sub. concepcion made 2 e's in the first game though...:-(

Innocent question: Why not a "1" at SS?

Howdy,

My question is from the perspective of a 70s "Small Ball" advocate. Even at Wrigley, why not get a "1" for SS? SS gets more defensive chances than any other position, btw.
