Pedro Guerrero on free agent wire. 56 ABs, .214 Avg, .304 SLG and .267 OBP. Go for it or take an untouched Roenicke, Marshall, Grub or similar generic LF?

Adam, if there is no injury data, pick him up ASAP. Too few ABs to make a determination. Too good a player to let sit on the wire.

I went back and checked - in a current league, I picked up Pete after he hit .224 for a team in 67 ABs (1 HR, 3 2B, 268 OBP, 313 SLG). For me (in Wrigley), in 162 ABs, he's hit 284 with a 350 OBP and a 525 SLG (875 OPS), with 10 dongs.

Snap him up-Pedro is a superior player-even his worst year is better than most other players. Small sample size before being dropped-as Jab mentioned, lacking injuru info, it's worth a selection.....

Adam, grab him. I picked him up from the FA pool after he was dumped (150ABs, bad numbers) and he almost won the division for me after a disastrous start for my team. He ended up banging 31HRS in a little over 400ABs.

Ok, now I need to figure out how to add him. I recently switched my C and LF for Terry Kennedy and a used Kirk Gibson. Gibson has played abot 15 gmes total with an avg of less than .200. Kennedy was pinch hit for with Bailor which may or may not mean he has one of his two bad RH oriented cards. I was thinking of dumping Kennedy and Gibson to get Guerrero and then just starting Benedict at C and crossing my fingers.

My pitching has been insanely good, but keep in mind I started out with something like a 17-5 record- I have played .500 ball for about a week. This is my best start in about 12 teams and I dont want to mess it up. I have been lucky at the start of a lot of seasons only to see my leads whittle away because I didnt act. Ripken hit the free agent market and I considered taking him but waited too long. Now he is on the best team in the league going .338 .550 .389.

Due to my starting pitching doing so well, I cant tell which of my relievers to dump (I have 7). Carew is batting .371 against lefties and below .300 against righties so who know whats going on there? Im worried I have his worst year but been getting lucky with rolls (he has 2x the ABs against Righties than lefties). I could have his best year with bad rolls against righties.

Randolph is sucking it up but even his worst card is a bargain. I probably have Boggs second worst year but thats why you play Boggs-even his second worst year is good. Injury revealed that Concepcion is in his second worst or middle year, but there are no available alternatives. (no remaing 2 defense .75 SSs). Murphy and Butler are carrying the offense. (I usually have to beg for a CF-this time I have to put one in right).

So, any suggestions on what to do. Does a damaged goods Pedro make up for having a random C?

by the way I am in Oakland-which might make Guerrero less appealing.

Adam,

I wouldn't mind having Benedict catch at Oakland. You'll have a strong defensive catcher working with your great SP's. Kennedy's power is neutralized in Oakland, so I don't think you'll see a dropoff in offense going with Benedict. But a big defensive upgrade.

If Concepcion is stinking it up and you have great SP's, you may want to go with a cheap "3" at SS. Your SP's will get a lot of the outs themselves.

Schofield or DeJesus are not available?.......

the only "2" SSs available are Gagne and Dunston. Concepcion is doing what you would expect from his middle card. .325 OBP. The only reason I would dump him is to afford Guerrero. But I think I would rather dump Kennedy, as you said.

I'd go for the damaged goods Pedro in Oakland. When you really break down the differences between Dodger Stadium and Oakland, and how Oakland might affect his slugging, I'd be willing to take a calculated risk, cross my fingers and play Benedict every day. Just my two cents, though, which is admittedly green. Good luck whichever way you play it, Adam.
