Help with HAL's moves in 80's

I'm trying to get some info from a move that HAL made in my game. With Carman pitching (a lefty) and Mumphrey scheduled to bat . . . HAL brings Glenn Hoffman in to hit. Now, Mumphrey is fairly heavily balanced towards righties, especially in his best season . . . but Hoffman is generally not known for his bat. My best guess is that I have Mumphrey's best season, where he's 9R and has no hits vs. Lefties, Carman has one of his better seasons, and Hoffman has one of his two best cards (both 2L) . . . but I'm still trying to make heads or tails of this and just need some insight. Thanks.

What you said sounds reasonable.
Was it a clutch situation? If so Mumphrey has a couple of seasons that you can't rule out, like 80/82/85 as well. Especially if Hoffman is 80. I haven't done the math, but I'm assuming Hoffman 80 is a better matchup vrs lefties in the clutch over every Mumphrey card except 84.
Also, if you have Mumphrey set to avoid lefties then the percentages likely won't matter anyway. Mumphrey will be taken out and the best available guy will PH.

It wasn't clutch, in fact there were no outs in the eighth. And no, I didn't set Mumphrey to avoid lefties, he has only 30 ABs, not enough to base a decision like that on. I can say though, that he is 0-8 with a K so far against lefties.

As another update to this one . . . HAL just pinch hit for Mumphrey with Reggie Jackson against Vida Blue.

Why is Reggie sitting on the bench? He is usually a balanced and productive hitter and I would be playing him somewhere (RF or DH) vs LHP until I had definite evidence not to.
This move by HAL seems to emphasize that you should be playing Reggie against LHP as well as vs RHP. What it's saying about Mumphrey is less clear—that is, Mumphrey might still be in a good or bad year— but I'd tend to sit Mumphrey vs LHP and await developments.
If you want to post your team, it would provide a context that would allow for suggestions that might be more helpful--right now we're left to guess about why Reggie might be on the bench.
Also, I just checked on Hoffman and he as a year when he's .723 2L and another where he's .752 2L. Both of these should be productive platoon years, so you might want to try to find him some playing time and see how he does.

Well I could start him in RF instead of Greenwell, though there isn't a lot of difference. As for Hoffman . . . pretty doubtful he'd out hit any of my starters.

Actually, looking at your team, I can see why you're doing what you're doing. :D
