Has anyone out there tried using the "Governor of California" as a full-time 2B before in the 80s game? I've always liked his card for the money... good OBP on 4 cards, runs well, won't kill you defensively... and I've always wanted to try him on a running team in the right ballpark. Well, I will be in Busch, I have a lot of good hitters elsewhere in the lineup, and I have Doug Flynn as Jerry's designated late-inning defensive replacement:

Any love out there for the Governor? For that matter, any feedback on this team would be appreciated, as I am 0-for-life in the 80s. The other teams in my division are in Comiskey, Wrigley, and Tiger, and other than a 2nd Wrigley team, all of the other teams in the league are in different stadiums. Thanks in advance.

YF, I almost always follow your advice, and I also almost always insist on using a 2 or better at 2b... but Oester and I apparently do not agree, I have had him on about 5 different teams and he hasn't hit his weight yet for me. I actually had him and Jose Lind, in addition to Browne pre-season, dropped Oester out of vendetta, and Lind b/c Flynn is a cheaper defensive sub. We'll see.

I am OK with a 3. I think you need solid TEAM defense. Who is your SS? I heard people say you want to have between 3 and 5 for 2b, SS, and CF.
3+1+1 = 5. I think you could go up to 6 in the 80's game 1+2+3

Larkin (a.k.a. Cincy #11) at SS, Dykstra in CF. Carew is DH. Larkin and Porter have combined for 6 errors in 1st 6 games, but I doubt that will continue at that rate. Porter INJ reveal to be either 78 or 83, both quite acceptable. I kind of wanted to do a team aggressive on the bases and with the hit and run, but that still had some pop. I did not expect to get both Cooper and Carew, but since I did, I don't want to get rid of either... the problem is that leaves me with Horner playing 3rd. I am big fans of Horner, Cooper, and Carew and would like to keep all if feasible.

That's a bad link. Your team link has to have an ID next to it. Like this:

Horner is solid. Try out the Gov. I can work. There are no magic formulas to winning. I've seen guys win with Molitor at 2b.
To get the right team link. Go to the League Stats for Teams. Click on your team link...copy address bar

I a usually very quick to start making moves, but I am trying to be a bit patient with this team. As you can see, Browne is 1 of the only guys off to a good start... I still have him hitting 9th for now. Forsch is probably on the chopping block, there are plenty of other adequate replacements. I am thinking about offering Quisenberry around to pick up extra cash to upgrade over Foster, Browne, or whomever.

12 games is nothing, but you have some good things going. See how they play out.

Browne got hurt, reveals either 87 or 88, early results lean toward 87 so I picked up Wilfong to platoon and defensive sub for him. 5-13, made a few changes, but most of the ones I cut I had good reads indicating I might want to cut and run, and I have a few guys who are definitely on good cards who have just started slowly.
