Seems like he's got a good card. Nobody in my league wanted him. Anyone have any luck with him?

He has a great card but the problem with him is that he is not a *SP which means you will have to have a 5 man rotation if you use him. 5 man rotations are not bad but you have to put more of your salary cap space in your rotation than if you used a 4 man rotation. So the only knock on him is his price as well as having to get 4 more decent SP for your rotation.

I have come to use 5-man rotations pretty frequently, but I avoid Sid because he costs a lot. I tend to anchor a five man rotation on pitchers like Perez, Candelaria, Blue and Dravecky who are in the 5M range.

You can actually put together a good and cost-effective rotation using, say, 3 of the 5M SPs and a couple of cheaper guys. But in my opinion, Sid and Nolan tend to throw the economics of a 5M out of whack. That said, I must confess I've never used Sid and have used Ryan only once. There are no doubt others who will speak in their favor.

OF-the guys you mentioned are far superior to their SP* counterparts in the same price range. Problem is if there are 2 managers going for 5 man rotations-you run into a shortage of quality for the price SPs real fast.

I love Sid and often use non* SPs, at least to some extent. The problem with Sid (and a 5 man staff in general) is that you are limited in the playoffs. You're #1 guy can only pitch once in the semis. For this and other reasons, I try to go a little cheaper - and more balanced - when using non* SPs, although I'll go to Sid when necessary.

I just took another look at Sid and boy, that is a REALLY good card. Having just dismissed him, I now have to say that I wouldn't rule out using him after all someday if I have the spare cash...

I think if you throw an * on Sid, he's $8-8.5M.

Her is Sid in a 5 man rotation, and in the Kingdome. I think that he is worth it. http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/80s/team/team_other.html?user_id=72403

Jerry,

One thing I noticed about Sid is that he hardly gives up any BPHR on any of his cards. That plus the low WHIP might make him very good in the Kingdome (or Riverfront, which I use a lot.) I see that you've got Sid on this team along with a bunch of cheap low-homer junk-baller SPs and that it seems to be working quite well.

Good luck with your team! :D
