This is were I usually reply explaining Defense, blah, blah, blah......but why even bother :shock:

I direct people to this forum to read it for themselves from other disinterested parties. Im suprised how many people dont actually click on the message boards topic to get tips on how to play.

Maybe he can use Franco at 2B and Molitor at SS. :roll:

I wouldn't take that trade either, but then again I wouldn't be playing Molitor and Franco at 2nd base unless I was really desparate.

I am not a fan of Whitaker. I have had on my teams a few times and he has been extremely poor against left handed pitching. Awful expensive as a platoon player.

That is why some of us win more. Rice isnt worth that much. A 1 at 2B is gold but as I said before why bother just come in my leagues more I like winning :D

I might not either, Doug, but it really all depends on need doesn't it? Obviosuly the guy you are trading with needs a 2B. So this was a big bonehead move. I always draft Sandberg #1 so I never have this problem :)

I'd have to agree with Mike on this one.....Sweet Lou is too much for his one sided bat - even though he is a "1" in the field. With that said, I still don't care for this guy's current options at 2B (Molitor or Franco). So maybe HE should do it - but I wouldn't.

But then again, I don't have as many rings as Penn.....yet. :wink:

2B has more than 12 good to decent 1 or 2 fielding 2B so that there should never be a worry of starting a 3 there. Garcia, Remy, Barrett and some others are many times free agents. I have had excellent years with Remy and Garcia so I almost always let others scrap over Sandberg and Whitaker, spend my money elsewhere and take a lower priced 2B.

Just because an experienced player offers you a trade it doesn't necissarily mean it is good for you. There is a reason that they are successful and experienced.

I for one like Whitaker and use him a lot. Since his platoon issue is a known and consistent factor--and he will pretty much always hit RHP--you can pick up a 2B who hits LHP for under 1M and Lou will still get 65-70% of the ABs. Then, if you're lucky enough to get his great 1R year, he can play every day.

If you draft Lou, you've got a middle infielder who can really field and hit--and I like to build a team on that. He's also significantly cheaper than Sandberg and Grich and has higher OBP than White and more power than Doran. All in all, I happen to like the package, though, as the saying goes, "It's difference of opinion that makes horse-races." :D

For what it's worth, however, I wouldn't necessarily trade Rice for Whitaker. Rice has 2 or 3 MVP level years on his card and Whitaker's best years aren't on that level. So I might be inclined to keep Rice, Molitor and (maybe?) Franco, while looking for another option at 2B.

I bow to your greatness :P , but in the only league that you and I have been in together, my team took the championship while your team was elimated in the semis. That championship team had Steve Sax playing 2B full-time with a como Dejesus about 55% and Stillwell 45% at short. Different styles work for different people. I have had very good success with Sax and Ray as second basemen. My teams don't turn many double plays and often have fielding percentages below .980, but make up for that by scoring a lot of runs.

Rice for Whitaker? I would possibly bite depending on what other second basemen were available and what year cards each player had if it could be determined.

Just because some other players haven't played 75 teams in the 80's, doesn't mean we don't think through trade offers. I strategize a number of things including platooning, defense, power, speed, oppponents parks, their success against left handed and right handed pitching just to mention a few.

Anyway, it is all good fun. Some people take it very seriously and some don't. Some people are rookies and are learning how to play and others are like you and have played for quite some time.

My goal is to continue to learn what works at different parks and to crack the top 50 within the next year while only playing 2-3 teams at a time. I am currently at 85 and climbing.
