Using Eric Davis is like...

...trying to drive an Indy car on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. You dream of going 200 miles an hour and end up on the side of the road in your expensive ride, the delicate high-performance engine broken and smoking.
Well, that's my best try anyway. Feel free to add your own simile if you're a fellow Eric Davis-aholic, which I seem to have become through a mix of chance (he's who I got when I didn't get Yount) and choice (i.e., "gee, look at that OPS and that speed and that defense!"). I had his '86 card on one Fenway team and he produced 100 points under his OPS. I've got him on another Fenway team in either his '87 or '88 card and he's a) constantly hurt (strange, since his injuries in these years are on 12 rolls) and b) producing 150 to 200 points below his OPS, depending on the year. And I guess I just don't learn: I just picked him up in a waiver draft for a Jack Murphy team due to start today. Figure I'll bat him leadoff on a power team. I picked up M. Young and Heep for when he's hurt and figure I can also try my righty DH platoon man Zisk as a replacement versus righties, too:

Am I nuts? Or is this finally the time I get to drive 200 miles an hour through heavy Brooklyn traffic?
