Jim Morrison

I've been lucky enough to pull some good Jim Morrison cards in various leagues. Seems to me this guy could be a full-time starter in most years, allowing the manager to free up cash for other positions. His defense isn't wonderful, but, hey, it's 3B -- def is a luxury.

Anyone taken Morrison and installed him as starting 3B from the get go? Anybody else consistently use at least one .75 player in their lineup from the start (I would assume these would be 2B/SS's)?

He is not 75¢ but I often take Remy at 96¢ as my 2B.

I won a championship in Royals with Owens and Schofield platooning at SS.

I won a championship in Fenway with Foley and Julio Cruz platooning at 2B.

I lost in the finals in a league with Rick Cerone and Fitzgerald sharing C duties.

I'm in a league right now, with Franklin Stubbs playing every day, with a .290 BA, 26 HR, 70 RBI, .568 SLG, .366 OBP in 331 AB (97 games)

I've also used Morrison, Scott Fletcher, Carmen Castillo, every day, and Glenn Braggs successfully against LHP.

It can be a smart move to 'cheap out' at one position and use the cash else where. It seems to work better in the IF, but can be done other place. Listen to Sean, he is one of the swamii's in this game. He has won everywhere, using everybody. He's an 80's orgy all rolled into one.

I'm using him as my 2B in this league. I opted for an offensive lineup at the Kingdome here. I figure, doing the math, his poor defense ought to hurt me to the tune of 48 singles in 162 games. (Or so.) His "E" numbers are somewhat decent for 2B so there's always a chance he'll dig the ball for the out.

I needed a good "N" power 2B guy and he won the job outright from Samuel and Oester. I'm pleased with his numbers so far. As long as this team can keep putting runs on the board, I've got a chance I think.

I had Morrison hit .334, .533 SLG, .394 OBP 12 HR, 48 RBI in 308 atbats with his 84 card. Looking back at that team I had a bunch of over-performances-Jose Cruz at .347, Gerald Young at .323, Petry went 8-1 with a 3.04 ERA, Ruhle 6-1 with a 2.89 ERA, Bill Schroeder at .308, 21 HR in 357 abs. As usual I was beaten in the semis.

and others


I have a team now in 1st place that has Royster at DH vs lefties, Salazar at 3B vs righties.

I have another team with a .680 winning pct through 66 games that has Collins starting in LF both ways.

Cheap guys can be the key to a winning strategy.

Opening night Morisson hits 3 HR's not too bad for the price. Also Polonia and Braggs.

nyc's list is a good one. I've also used guys like Buechele, B. Martinez, Ron Jackson, Benzinger, Bailor, U.L. Washington, Guillen, Polonia, etc to good effect. They're good one season, bad the next. I've got Salas in two leagues right now, both at game 66 and in one league his OPS is .384, in the other it's .812. Panzer Ace seems to be the master as using this kind of player. He often has 15 or 16 position players, with many sub-1M guys getting significant playing time and belting the ball.

I've currently got Remy in an odd role. He's in his last year, 83, which is .640 4L and--while that may not look impressive-- he is flat out killing lefties--.355 BA, .500 SLG (no homers but 4 triples in 62 AB), .400 OBP. He's not hitting righties at all. It took me a while to figure out what I had, but I've now got him in a reverse platoon with Oester handling the RHP. Two cheap, extreme platoon players can definitely give you some offensive production at a given position.
