80s feature upgrade coming soon...

Hey 80's-ers,

I didn't want to play my hand this early, but with all the talk of a new tournament going on, I'm being forced to. As I promised, I'm working on bringing over many new features to the 80's game from ATG II and beyond, and they should be available VERY SOON. As in within the next 3 weeks. Someone tipped me off to the formation of a "Tour"-style non-elimination tournament, and I was pleased that I was going to be able to offer the new feature set (including different salary caps, for example) to support it.

However, now I see that the big event that's being organized is a shorter, elimination-style bracket tourney which won't necessarily take advantage of the new features. Obviously, what you play is up to you, but I wanted you to have the notice that "80's version 2.0" is coming soon, for all that it's worth. If that throws a wrench in anything that you're organizing, then I apologize. I just figured the more information, the better.

The exact feature set is still amorphous, but as I have stated clearly before, it will include variable salary caps, and will not include a re-pricing of the players.

Thanks,
Bernie

Bernie,

If we placed teams in under 80s v1.0 for the tourney, can you switch it to v2.0 if we wait?

Good question. I should clarify.

This upgrade will be integrated into the current site and will be completely seamless to existing teams. It mostly involves new options you can set up new leagues with; existing leagues will continue on with the existing/default options.

The only reason I mentioned this was in case you wanted to set up an event that takes advantage of the various new play options, but any event based on the existing ones will certainly work as usual.

Thank you Bernie. It appears that the first round of the tourney will begin now...then we can look forward to the changes when the second round begins.

Speaking for myself, it is great to have information, and I sure do appreciate you being so forthcoming with it.

Bernie,

Fair enough.

While you didn't make changes to the players / roster / pricing, did you adapt any additional CD-ROM statistical features?

Home / Away stats are great but the CD-ROM does offer additional data points that don't require many modifications besides providing the spot on a "tab".

RC/27 is a nice data point for individual players. If you have the CD-ROM and review your team stats, you'll see the features. As many of us count the events by hand, I'm sure you can bolt on a few other data collection tools for us.

If anything, statistical information counts for more in the 80s than other formats.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Naturally, if you need help with anything 80's related, I'm only a PT away. I've played a few teams before.

P.S. When and if the prices are EVER addressed, please knock on my door. I've used every card in the deck.
