Howe Dies in Truck Accident Today.

I'm watching MLB.TV tonight and I heard the color guy for the Indians say that Steve Howe died in a truck accident this morning.

I don't remember him as vividly as some of the other players in the 80's game but I have heard all about his troubled past with drug and alcohol abuse. Ironic that none of his vices allegedly led to his demise.

Anyone have any good Howe stories to share? Or bad? Dodger fans, anyone?

Very sad about Steve Howe. We all battle our own demons in life; he just had to do it in a very public forum.

In the two years I've been playing this game, we've lost John Cerutti, Kirby Puckett and now Steve Howe. God rest their souls.

It's tough because these guys are all my age ...

It is sad about Steve Howe. In a slightly ironic note......when I saw the subject "Howe dies in accident" I was thinking Art Howe for some reason.

i haven't heard abput mahler either. as far as howe goes. the guy was a disgrace. i am sorry he is dead but i have no pity for the way he lived. just like gooden and others he wasn't smart enough to appreciate what he had.

Rick Mahler died in March 2005 of a heart attack. I remember year in and year out he was about the only pitcher the Braves had during that time who could win more than 10 games.

Mahler's career record was 96-111. He only won 10 games 3 times (84, 85 & 86) in his career. The only other 10 game winners during those 3 years were Pasqual Perez (14 in '84) and David Palmer (11 in '86).

Rickie was a control pitcher who would get rapped every now & then. Guess something like a Paul Byrd? I had not idea he'd passed away. Saw him pitch on cable many times. Always struck me as a battler, not extremely talented, but capable. Too bad he couldn't been a #4 on a good staff.
