Dawson's 87 Card

Postby memphisjohn » Sat May 27, 2006 7:21 pm

I just had Dawson's 1987 Card and he way underperformed (in Riverfront). Has anybody had similar experience with that card?

He hit 10 HR against LHP. On the same team Burleson hit 8 against LHP...

I loved having Dawson in the late 80's, early 90's seasons... in a CD-game keeper league. I had him in Royal Stadium, and while he did not have a very good average, nor the HR's to match real-life, he did always compete for the league-lead in RBI's... How? I batted him 6th, where he could clean up any leftovers, including the #4/#5 hitters who would walk a lot (when THEY didn't hit the HR's or strikeout). He'd give me a .260 average but easily exceed 100-120 RBI's in each full season, despite the low average. If you bat him cleanup (or have a need to) you WILL be sadly disappointed, but try 5th or 6th and see what happens.

Great advice!

I've turned many a season around by using the "leftovers" strategy. Sometimes a player just doesn't want the limelight!
