You should add this to the "Records" thread, too, ken. Congrats! :)

Saasquatch:

I was just lucky. This is my second team with Sporting News/SOM. When I drafted my first team for the 70s Game, I selected Rollie Fingers for my relief pitcher and ended up with Grant Jackson, who ended up being very effective for me (link to final season stats below):

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/70s/playoffs/team.html?stats=sim

Anyway, I selected him for my 1969 team, and to date he's been an effective starter (4-2 after 30 games). It was his turn in the rotation when the no-hitter occurred; I didn't make any special adjustments.

Even though I was a baseball fan back then, I really don't recall hearing much about him, but he apparently played on the Phillies for a number of years.

Grant Jackson, who was black by the way, was very reliable starting pitcher although never outstanding. I remember him playing for the Pirates mainly.

Anyway, congrats on the no hitter!

In researching the issue, Grant Jackson played on a number of teams. It actually appears that he was utilized more as a relief pitcher than a starting pitcher through most of his career. He actually played quite a number of seasons.

Thanks for the link. Wow, he pitched 17 seasons in the bigs. That's a durable arm -- and a lefthanded one at that! I thought I remembered him as a starter for the Pirates, but it looks like he was mainly a reliever after he left the Phillies in the mid-60's.

With the Yanks, he gave up a 3-run shot to Brett in Game 5 of the 1976 ALCS, eighth inning I think, erasing a 6-3 lead and setting up Chambliss' HR leading off the 9th. He was a valuable part of that Yankee team.
