Bruce Sutter (left) pitched 3 sparkling innings of 1-hit ball in relief for the win, and Dale Murphy tripled home the deciding runs in the 8th inning. Over in the AL, Bob Tewksbury, making his first start for the Indians since being traded by the Yankees for Julio Franco, haunted his former teammates by out-dueling Ron Guidry as Cleveland beat New York 4-3. Armas finally comes through

Postby chazhain » Thu Nov 15, 2007 7:40 am

When Tony Armas hit the go ahead home run in the 9th inning last night, his entire family breathed a sigh of relief. "He left for Fort Myers saying he wanted to lead the league in walks," said Mrs. Armas. "Since he can't play defense, I begged him to work on his power."

He certainly did not work on playing center field. In 6 Fly(CF)X opportunities, Armas has given up 4 singles and made errors on the other two (in consecutive Kirk Gibson ABs no less). GM Curt Schilling claims there's no where else to put him. "At this point I might as well put Baylor out there," he remarked. Schilling is reportedly trying to trade Armas for a gifted young Saluki named Steve Finley. "I've got Clemens, Boyd, and Hurst," he said. "All I really need is a guy who can patrol that goofy cutout centerfield."

Concerned for their financial future, the Armas family has reportedly started taking Tony Jr. to pitching lessons.
