One game that was tight involved the AL East leading Toronto Blue Jays and the NL West leader, the California Angels. As show in the photo, Blue Jays players are happy these days as they are able to defeat high calibur teams in close games, such as the Jays beating the Angels, 3-1. Toronto's Doyle Alexander improved his record to 12-4 while Angels starter Don Sutton fell to 8-6. AL All-star RP Mark Eichorn picked up his 9th save on the year.

[b:6cf7494657]On a good streak-[/b:6cf7494657] The Chicago Cubs have been hot of late, defeating the Giants by a score of 10-3. The win went to Dennis Eckersley who is still considering a move to the bullpen next year despite being 6-5 as a starter, while the loser was Mike Krukow who dropped to 7-11 on the year. The man whith a plan last night for the Cubs was Leon Durham who smacked two homers, one of which was a grand slam.

[b:6cf7494657]On a bad streak-[/b:6cf7494657] What happened to those poor kitties in Detroit? Fans in the motor city saw the Tigers suffer their 5 consecutive loss, 8-1 to the Rangers. With the Blue Jays playing .500 ball over their last 10 games, the Tigers have missed the boat to re-take the AL east lead. Rangers knuckleballer Charlie Hough had Detroit's hitters twisting into corkscrews last night, while Eric King evened his record to 10-10 on the year with a less than stellar outing, allowing 6 runs and 4 walks before getting pulled in the 3rd inning.
