Diaz started the scoring with a two run home run in the first inning and finished the scoring with a solo home run in the 9th.

In between those three runs, however, the Reds outscored the Pirates 11-6 to eventually win the exciting game by a score of 11 to 9.

The Pirates are tied with the Phillies for third place, six games back in the NL East.

Darryl Strawberry hit his major league leading 36th home run, but the N.Y. [u:da689453a5]Mets lost to the Giants 6-4[/u:da689453a5]. Meanwhile, the [u:da689453a5]Cardinals defeated Atlanta 4-1[/u:da689453a5] to move into (yet another) 1st place tie in the National League East.

The Houston Astros rallied in the 9th... but fell short, [u:da689453a5]losing to the Cubs 5-4[/u:da689453a5]. However, the 2nd place Padres could not capitalize, as they [u:da689453a5]lost to the Phillies 6-4[/u:da689453a5], losing for the 9th time in their last 10 games.
