McGee tripled in the 2nd and scored St. Louis' 1st run on a groundout, singled home a run in the 3rd, and in the 7th he capped it off with a show-stopper: a dramatic 2-out, 2-run homerun that turned a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead, which closer Todd Worrell was able to nail down for the win. Mike Scott, who was pitching on normal rest after leaving the Astros' Game 1 win early with an injury, went the full 8 innings but wasn't his usual dominant self, as Cardinals righty Danny Cox was able to match him the whole way until McGee's heroics saved the day.
