St. Louis, playing without centerfielder Willie McGee and uber-utility-man Jose Oquendo, both injured in their Game 3 loss, actually threatened to score in the top of the 5th, as Andy Van Slyke walked and stole second, and Jim Lindeman followed with a single to left, but on the play Van Slyke was gunned down at the plate by Rickey Henderson. Lindeman, in true Cardinals style, gamely stole second again but was stranded.
The Yankees can win the Championship at home with Game 5 on Thursday night, the last game to be played in the Bronx. Scheduled to face off are Danny Cox for the St. Louis and Tommy John, the 3rd lefty in a row, for New York.
