Lineups modified by injuries

I have noticed that when a starter is injured, the computer fills out a lineup completely different from the one I set up. I don't know whether this has been happening often as I have not analyzed my box scores all that closely until just recently. Is this just a fluke, is there something I am not doing correctly (I have filled out the lineups with both first and second choice backups), or is this just standard procedure? It is rather disappointing to think that all the time I invested in developing a lineup is for nothing if an injury occurs to an everyday player.

If you set your backups for each position all your work is not for nothing. You at least get to tell HAL what player you want to backup at each position vs L&R pitching. The lineup will get rearranged as you couldn't possibly set all lineup scenarios based on which player might be injured. The computor (HAL) will do his best on setting the batting order but it probably won't be exactly like you would have done. Like I said, at least you are able to choose who will be in that lineup which is an improvement to the game from when you could only select your starters.

I don't see how you could possibly set different lineups for when your 1B is injured vs L&R pitching......and when your 2B is injured vs L&R pitching.....and when your 1B AND 2B are injured at the same time vs L&R pitching.....and on and on.
