Anybody like Horace Clarke or Davey Johnson?

They both look kinda lame vs. rhp. Good gloves, though. Can Clarke hit his card BA? Is Johnson worth the extra money???

One Man's Experience

I've used Carew 3 times, Millan 2 times, Morgan 3X & am using Johnson now and pretty much like his card and H. Clarke has completed 2 seasons.

Comisky RFK

.285 ave .274
73 runs 80
61 rbi 60
18 sb 26
11 errors 16
.335 OBP .322

Given the weakness of this position I would say Clarke is an upper echolon 2B who can provide you better than Millan. Carew hits but he makes upper 20 errors. Better yes, but given salary Clarke can be good value.

Horace is a better deal in this game than he was in real life IMO. He just putup a 41 2B, 11 3B season for me and finished runnerup for gold glove.

Not bad for the ca$h involved.

Should have listed the ballpark in that last post about Horace... RFK.

I've used Johnson 2X with decent results. Both times in pitchers parks.

He's expensive, but defense AND decent offensive production is a premium in the '69 game.

My favorites @ 2B are:
Helms
Popovich
and Hunt.

Johnson

From a personal stand point, I grew up a Davey J. fan. So, I am biased and have used him regularly. And had good success. I prfer D up the middle so I draft him high. My best performance came at Busch with him. He far out played all his season records. Wish the rest of the team did as well  .

110 games into a Fenway season for me, here are Clarke's stats:

v. RHP, .268 BA, .306 OBP, .339 SLG
v. LHP, .340 BA, .377 OBP, .477 SLG

overall, .302 BA, .340 OBP, .410 SLG

Respectfully above his card's stat line.

He has 15 doubles, 2 HRs, 33RBIs, 21 walks, 13 steals and 8 errors.

I'm batting him 2nd against lefties (Aparicio, in a really terrific season, bats 1st), 9th against righties. He's had a solid, consistent season and I'd use him again. Very good value for the position.

Forgot to mention... he's played 88 games for me, not the full 110.
