what's wrong with this team :?: I'm new to the game but I think I have a good lineup on paper. Why am I having such poor results?

the link you provide doesn't work, but I think you have the Black Swans in one of my leagues. Here is some quick advice. Cut Vida Blue - great pitcher, but not in 1969. He'll kill you every time he gets in a game.
Other than that, your pitching is good. For your hitters, Killebrew and Brock are great. I'd bat Brock 2nd and bat Torre right after Brock. Kbrew bats cleanup (how can he not?). Against righties, you can't play Fuentes at SS - his hitting does not come close to making up for his bad fielding. Against righties, you'd be much better off picking up Etheridge to play SS and batting him 1st. Etheridge, Brock, Torre, KBrew - helluva lineup. So, those are my recommendations, for what its worth.

Can you try to trade for some offense? Harmon Killebrew is the only non-pitcher on your roster that scares anybody.
Brock, Torre and Cepeda are having decent years, but you need to tailor your team to your ballpark. In Tiger Stadium, you need to carry at least 3 or 4 guys that will hit with power (as in 30+ Homers).
Experiment with trades rather than dropping players and taking the 20% salary "hit". There should be sufficient interest in any of your starting pitchers - see if you can deal one or two of them for similarly-priced everyday players.
A basic plan should include maximizing your salary dollars on everyday players and minimizing costs for your benchwarmers.
Good luck - hang in there. The game can be a real blast once you've learned the ropes.
