RIP '86

Well the '86 game , which brought into the SOM world ,vast new interest and fresh blood and is now pay per view is not off to a great $24.95 start . Sure it's the 1st day of ppv but I don't see it changing much now . Not one team or league is forming . Nice job of cutting your nose off dispite your face TSN ! I predict '86 will go the road of the Edsel and die . Greed will get you nowhere , when are you going to learn this TSN .

I plan on purchasing a couple of 1986 teams when some of my free teams seasons end. Possibly even sooner. I think what ,"The Sporting News" and SOM have done, and are doing is great! Within the next few days I will receive my tax refund and my first purchase will be 5 teams for 99.95! I hope I am able to use some of my credits on 2007 seasons and some on 1986 seasons! I hope they never get rid of the 1986 season! It is a very fun year to play, and I commend Bernie on his choice! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BERNIE AND DO NOT LET OUR COMPLAINTS GET YOU DOWN!

rmilter , you can play the 2005 season for $12.50 and some of the other 200X games . I feel that '86 should have gone that route for $$$ instead of the ATG price is all . So many new players came in on the freebee , which I and everyone appreciate of course , but to make it $24.95 is asking to much and defeats the purpose of the freebee in the 1st place imo .

Yeah, I don't understand how giving away 5 free teams for free makes TSN "greedy." The kvetching on these boards sure gets ridiculous sometimes.

I don't think 1986 is a particularly strong Strat game, but it has brought in new blood. Hopefully some of those folks will be interested in taking ATG, 1969, etc, for a spin as well.

I agree, Freeradicals, that $24.95 is steep for '86. The half price would be more reasonable. Maybe when people stop playing, TSN will drop the price.

Well said. Most of my five 1986 leagues were filled with brand-new players and many (certainly not all) of them said that they were going to try other TSN SOM games; this time as paying customers.

While they never played this online game before, they were inticed by the "free" game and will now check out some of the other offerings.

Well done, Bernie and crew.

Actually one of my friends is so bummed out that a 1986 league of his that was full got cancelled that now he is not sure if he wants to buy any teams.

This is part of an email that my friend had sent me:

SN cancelled my second team--the league was full and set to draft Sunday and it just disappeared. That is incredibly poor judgment on their part! Makes me wonder if I want to support idiots like that!

Wonder if other people feel the same as my friend?

Why would TSN discount the 1986 game just because it is an older year set? That makes no sense at all. THIS IS A NEW GAME! If TSN had to discount games just because the year set is older then ATG would be free and they would never bring us new games of older year sets in the future.

The 2005, 2004, 2003, etc year sets are discounted because the people who play those games will always prefer the most current year set especially after having played the older years sets all year, or longer.

It is ridiculous to expect TSN to offer a free game forever.

That's weird. I placed a team on Monday morning (April 14) and it drafted Monday night, one full day prior to the April 15 deadline.

Waivers just ran yesterday (Weds - Apr 16) afternoon. :?
