Gwynn or Evans

Would you go with Gwynn or Dwight Evans in Royals stadium? Right now I have Gwynn.

I'd personally go with Gwynn in any stadium over Evans. Going by Diamond Dope's splits. I'm still very new to this game, so I'd wait for a more seasoned SOM player to comment.

I agree with Killer . Gwynn over Evans in any park unless you can't get Gwynn and even then Evans would not be my 2nd , 3rd or even 5th choice . There are better hitters . Evans is fine in a hitters park and his D is very good but he offers more walks than anything else as far as hitting. In a pitchers park ( such is Royals) you need the obp but you also need it made with hits to move runners along .

Gwynn is by FAR the better choice. I like Gwynn in ATG, but his +1 arm there usually keeps him in the free agent pool. Here in 1986 however, he has a better arm, plus in this comparison he's just a better hitter and baserunner, particularly for Royals and other similar parks.

For example, I have Gwynn on a team in Busch, which is almost identical of a park to Royals.
Gwynn's numbers through 114 games:
479 AB, 23 2b, 7 3b, 6 hr, 84 r, 51 rbi, .351/.397/.466
And at home:
212 AB, 11 2b, 3 3b, 2 hr, .359/.415/.467
So he's faring better at home, but not by too much.
And he can't get hurt.

Speaking of injuries , I have noticed that injuries are much more common in the '86 game . I see tons of teams out there with 80% of their hitters 15 game IR risks . They can't play if they are at the doctors'. Take Gwynn if you can !

I'll give an opinion only because I've used them both. Gwynn is a much better choice for Royals (the stadium I almost always use). However I had Evans in one league due to lack of choices when I got to it. He's hit 25 HR has 102 rbi through 130 some games , and is second in the MVP running right now. I'd definately look at other options, but if the choices are slim Evans could work out for you.

On the topic of RF's, what is everyone's opinion on Kevin Bass? He's a less expensive alternative to Dewey. Good speed, not great defensively, but has decent OBP numbers.

Definitely take Gwynn at KC. I'm a big Dewey fan, currently have in my league, but would take the chubby point guard.

Bass is a solid choice. In ATG, he more than holds his own. The weak arm in RF is his only major drawback.

Bass has been solid for me: .329 .368 .547
and especially good against lefties, if only there were more of them in the 86 card set

Evans has been a dog for me,... .226 .345 .410
but I think that is just luck as the rest of team is doing great (sometimes, its seems, all the bad luck falls on one player)

I have Gwynn in ATG but didn't manage to snag him in 86 cause he is too darn popular.
