Is Brett Worth It ?

Postby Loobee » Sun Apr 27, 2008 7:14 pm

Just curious to fellow managers opinions on George Brett. I have him as a DH on a Wrigley team that just started but in the other league I am in he is really not doing all that much for his pricetag. Is he worth keeping or should I try and deal ??

It is true that he gets injured a lot. However he had the highest OPS in one of my leagues, and he has my team in the Championship. The key for me was having Paul Molitor as my DH and Brett's backup at 3B. So when Brett did get hurt, I put Molitor at 3B and anyone at DH.

Thanks Guys,

Well he made it 30 games into the season before going down for 7. I have Boggs as my 3b so George is my DH so I have some others that I can use for DH while he is injured. His current line is a .269 BA and .362 OBP. I hate dropping players once a season starts but if I am going to move him I should do it while I still get 95% value. Decisions decisions, these are the things that keep me up at night.

Drop his sorry butt. You already have a 3B, and you can find a guy that produces much better for 95% of his salary. I haven't completed a season yet, but he's been stinking 4 of my 5 leagues up, and the only reason he isn't stinking the fifth up is because I dropped him.

I ended up dropping him. Pretty much most of what I have been hearing about him is that he is not worth the price tag so I made the move and was able to upgrade a couple other roster spots. Thanks to all for their input !!

Here is a league in which the the answer is definitively YES.

He is leading the league in BA, SLG, OPS, 2nd in OBP (Boggs) and 2nd in MVP voting (E Davis). He is also 1st in runs created/27outs with 13.3. 2nd place is Boggs with 8.9.

This was a live draft league and I got him with the last pick of the 2nd round.
