In my 2nd try with 1969, I am in the new two-team combo league and I'm limited to players from the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins. I'm thinking I'm going to let Killebrew use his lead glove at 3B. Lord, help me! :o

Anyone survive Killebrew at 3b-4e35? Any suggestions for avoiding this disaster with my limited roster?

Although I have never had Killibrew on one of my teams I would not hesitate to use him at 3B. One of my favorite players to use at 3B, especially in a HR park, is Tony Perez and his defense is very similar to Killer. Bad defense is pretty much the norm for the 69 game.

The offense that Perez or Killibrew brings to the plate makes up for the lackluster defense IMO.

I really don't have much choice, do I? If Killebrew doesn't play 3B, he'll be my DH. Then, I'd be benching Horton for a 3B like Nettles or Brown. Hmmm.

I am thinking of removing Killebrew for sub with the lead.

you can get away with him at 3rd. it's not like the tribe has a decent 3rd baseman and you could dh him.

tony horton is awful. decent hr numbers but i have never had him with a ba of over .230 or an obp over .290. harrelson the times i have had him in platoons destroys lhp.

It's not really the "4" that worries me at 3B, it's really the "e35."

However you are right. It's not like I have other good choices.

I am not against Killebrew at 3B as a hard and fast rule. I am considering Ortiz at 1B on a non-DH Tour team. On your team I think I would go another way. I would only play him there if my 1B were good. I wouldn't suffer the bad "D" to get "Hawk" Harrelson in the lineup. Your other defenders at SS and 2B aren't great and they will also be piling up the errors. I have seen John Kennedy used effectively at 3B and there must be others similar to him at 3B who could put up decent stats. I have also seen Clete Boyer have nice seasons in hitting parks, and he is pretty cheap if I recall. He would greatly improve the "D", while still providing some pop.

I think I will play Killebrew at 3B on most days, and check "remove for defensive sub with lead." I play in a HR friendly park (L:1-14, R:1-17) so I will DH Horton at home. If I am playing on the road in a pitcher's park, I will bench Horton, move Killebrew to DH, and play either Uhlaender (LF2e1) and Tovar (3B3e25) vs. righties or Peterson (LF3e8) and Brown (3B3e8) vs. lefties.

It should be a fun season, with a lot of managing.

I have used Tony Horton three times and have never been disappointed (for the money):

Municipal: 26 HR, 114 RBI, .277 BA, .453 SLG, .305 OBP

Shibe: 28 HR, 86 RBI, .260 BA, .464 SLG, .286 OBP

Sicks: 30 HR, 90 RBI, .259 BA, .455 SLG, .300 OBP

Horton will swing at anything - no walks, but his power numbers are decent. Platoon him with Tovar if you wish, but not Uhlaender or Peterson.

I just finished a theme league combining the offenses of the Twins and the Mets. Finished 84-78 (4 games out of the wild card), but lots of runs were scored. Charge was lead by Killebrew: 53 HR, 150 RBI, .257, .567, .374 (5th in the League MVP Voting).

One note: I did use Tovar quite often at 3B with Killer at 1B or DH.
